November 26th,
The movers showed up at our place around 11:00. I thought that it was a bit late but when they started I realized that it didn’t matter much. I am telling you these guys were efficient. If you left something behind in the room they were packing, too bad!  By the time you turned around it was packed in a box. They finished all the packing on that day, the only thing left were the beds. So we slept one last time in our rooms.

November 27th,
it was loading day.  The movers arrived at the house at around 07:30 and started loading the truck. Once again, these guys know what they are doing. By 02:00pm the whole house was in the truck and they were moving away. We stayed at the cabin that night.

November 28th,
This was cleaning day. We (mostly Lucie) cleaned the house. This house has never been so cleaned since we were there, cleaner than the day we moved in.

November 29th,
That day was basically a travelling day. We went around to say our final goodbyes to some friends and then we hit the road. The ferry crossing was schedule for 11:30 that night in Port aux Basques, so we had plenty of time. We arrived at the ferry at 08:30pm just to be told that the ferry couldn’t dock as there was too much wind. As a result we had to stay in the ferry parking lot all night.

November 30th,
After waiting all night, we boarded the ferry at 10:00am. I was so tired that I went directly to sleep in the cabin. Later that day I found out that the ferry never left until 01:00pm. We finally arrived at North Sydney at around 07:00pm. Our dog Loki had to find a patch of grass pronto. He had spent the entire night and day in the car and never so much as a mess. I am very impressed with him as a travelling companion, I thought this would have been a nightmare.

After stopping for something to eat we left directly for Oromocto. We arrived at around 03:30 in the morning. That pillow was some good….

December 1st,
After a good night sleep, we went to see the house and then went to the big mall in Fredericton. As well during the day we went to the lawyer, the phone company, the real estate agent, etc…

December 02nd,
We again went to the house and took measurements for all the windows. The main part of the day was spent shopping for blinds and curtains. I dropped by the office and talked to my new supervisor. I really think that I will enjoy working there.

December 03rd,
We had an appointment with the lawyer that morning and signed a bunch of papers. Actually we signed more papers than when we got married… After the lawyer we went to register the kids in school, as they go to 2 different schools we had to sign a bunch of papers again. I am thinking of getting a stamp with my signature on it, that would be so much faster and easier. Then I went and got my new cell phone and spend the rest of the day playing with that.

December 04th,
This was the big day, final inspection of the house, more papers to sign, go to the lawyer again but it is done, the house is ours. So we went back to it and enjoyed the view for a little while. We did nothing for the rest of the day, just hang around our hotel room. I must add that I am a little tired to eat restaurant food and stay in an hotel room, I am looking forward to get back in my own things. The only thing that is missing at this point is the mover to arrive with all our stuff. We were hoping to get some news today, but that didn’t happen.

December 07th/ 08th,
Loki was able to get away from us. You know that Oromocto is quite bigger than Rocky Harbour. We looked for him for about 5 hours. The good thing is we had a medal made for his collar with the address of the house. Someone found him and took him to the house.

In the meantime we were in an empty house for 2 days waiting for the people from the telephone and satellite compabies to show up and install everything.

December 09th,
Finally the mover showed up with our stuff. They arrived at 08:30 and they were done by 02:30pm. When I mean done, I mean that all the boxes were in the house mostly in the right rooms. They left the unpacking to us and left.

To help, during the evening we had a power outage. Do you realize that it is not that easy or or obvious to find flashlights and candles in the dark, especially if they are packed in some boxes somewhere in the house and you don’t have an idea where they are.

December 10th / 11th / 12th /13,
I worked 2 days and getting use to the office. Things are going well at work and I am meeting new people. The other 2 days were spend unpacking boxes. The house starts looking like a house. Things are getting organized and it is liveable now. We have few more thing to do but it is getting there.

During the week-end we took a small break and went for a walk. I found my first 2 geocaches in the area, right near the house. Cool!

December 14th / 15th,
I had to go back to Newfoundland for court. We are not even settled down in the house that I had to travel already.

December 16th / 17th / 18th,
It was back to work. I am getting acquainted with all, the people and the work. It should be quite different from the previous work. So far the only thing I can say is that I like it and should have some fun in this new position.

The beauty about the whole thing is that I am now off for the next 2 weeks. I am not working until January 04th.

December 19th,
We went Christmas shopping. I think that it is all done. Wow, we will get there in time.

Now it is quiet time with the family for the next 2 weeks. As soon as the house is all done, I will take some photos and post them on the blog.

So this is the adventure for the past month. Moving is quite something and I hope that I will not have to experience that again any time soon, especially around Christmas.

Désolé de ne pas avoir écrit plus tôt. Ca a ete pas mal mouvementé dans le coin ces derniers temps avec le déménagement et Noël qui approche a grand pas. Mais ca commence a se calmer un peu et au moins l’ordinateur est branché donc je suis capable d’ecrire mon blog. Voici donc l’histoire de notre déménagement, je vous préviens ca va etre long car il s’est passé pas mal d’affaires durant cette periode.

26 Novembre,
Les déménageurs sont arrivés a la maison vers 11:00, je pensais qu’ils auraient ete là plus de bonne heure, mais quand ils ont commencé, j’ai réalisé que c’etait pas vraiment important. Je peux vous dire que ces gars-là sont tres efficaces. Si vous laissiez quelque chose trainer dans une piece ou ils emballaient et que vous arretiez de la regarder pour quelque secondes vous pouviez etre sur que ca a ete emballé dans une boite. Ils ont terminé de tout placer dans des boites dans la journee, la seule chose qui restait etait les lits. Donc, on a ete capable de dormir dans nos lits une derniere fois.

27 Novembre,
Les déménageurs sont arrivés à la maison vers 07h30 et ont commencé le chargement du camion. Encore une fois, ces gars-là savent ce qu’ils font. Vers 02:00 pm toute la maison était dans le camion et ils sont partis. On a passer la nuit dans une cabine.

28 Novembre,
Journee pour le nettoyage. Nous (surtout Lucie) avons nettoyé la maison. Cette maison n’a jamais ete aussi propre, plus propre même que quand on a emmenagé.

29 Novembre,
Ce jour-là était pour le voyage. On est aller voir quelque amis et ensuite on est parti. Le traversier devait partir as 11h30 le soir de Port aux Basques, donc on n’etait pas pressé et on a pris notre temps. On est arrivé au traversier à 08:30 pm juste pour nous faire dire que le traversier ne pouvait pas accoster parce qu’il y avait trop de vent. On a du rester dans le stationnement pour le traversier toute la nuit.

30 Novembre,
Après avoir attendu toute la nuit, on est embarqué sur le traversier vers 10h00. J’étais tellement fatigué que je suis allé directement dans la cabine pour dormir. Plus tard ce jour-là j’ai découvert que le traversier a quitté le quai seulement vers 01h00 pm. On est finalement arrivés à North Sydney, à environ 07:00 pm. Notre chien Loki a dû trouver un carre de gazon pronto. Il avait passé la nuit entière et la journee dans la voiture et n’avait meme pas fait de degat, un bon petit chien. Je suis pas mal impressionné avec lui comme compagnon de voyage, j’avais bien peur que cela aurait pas mal pire.

Après avoir souper on est parti directement pour Oromocto. On est arrivé durant la nuit vers 03h30 du matin. Pas besoin de vous dire que l’oreiller a été bienvenue ….

01 Décembre,
Après une bonne nuit de sommeil, On est allé voir la voir la maison et on est parti faire du magasinage au centre d’achat a Fredericton. J’ai oublié que durant la journee on est allé voir l’avocat et l’agent immobilier et on a contacté la compagnie de telephone.

02 Décembre,
On est reparti a la maison et on a pris toute les mesures des fenêtres. La journee a passé à chercher des rideaux. Durant la journee j’ai arreté au bureau et j’ai parlé a mon nouveau superviseur, je pense que je vais bien aimé travailler ici.

03 Décembre,
On avait un rendez-vous avec l’avocat et on a signé un tas de papiers. En fait, on a signé plus de de papiers que lorsque nous nous sommes mariés … Après l’avocat on est allés pour enregistrer les enfants à l’école, comme ils vont à 2 écoles différentes, nous avons dû tout signer en double. Je pense me faire faire une etampe avec ma signature, ce serait tellement plus rapide et plus simple. Puis je suis allé chercher mon nouveau téléphone cellulaire et j’ai passé le reste de la journee a jouer avec mon nouveau gadget.

04 Décembre,
Ce fut le grand jour, l’inspection finale de la maison, encore plus de papiers à signer, retourné à l’avocat, mais c’est fait, la maison est à nous. Pour feter on est retourné la voir pour apprécier le moment un peu. On avait rien de prevu pour le reste de la journee faqu’on est resté dans la chambre d’hotel à vegeter. Je dois ajouter que je suis pas mal tanné de manger du restaurant et de vivre dans une chambre d’hotel, j’ai bien hate de me retrouver dans mes affaires. La seule chose qui manque c’est que les demenageurs arrivent avec toutes nos affaires. On esperait des nouvelles aujourd’hui, mais c’est pas arrivé.

07 / 08 Décembre,
Loki s’est poussé. Et bien Oromocto c’est pas mal plus grand que Rocky Harbour. On l’a cherché pendant à peu pres 5 heures. La bonne chose c,est qu’on lui avait fait faire une medaille pour son collier avec l’adresse de la maison. Quelqu’un la trouvé et l’a ramener à la maison.

En attendant, on a poirauté dans une maison vide pendant 2 jours à attendre les techniciens pour la television et le telephone pour qu’ils installent tout.

09 Décembre,
Enfin les demenageurs sont arrivés avec toutes nos affaires. Ils sont arrivés à 08:30 et tout avait ete debarqué à 02:30 pm. Ce que je veux dire c’est que toutes les boites et autre affaires etaient sortis du camion et etaient dans leur piece respective (ou à peu pres). Ils nous ont laissé tout à déballer.

Pour tout aider, durant la soirée on a eu une panne d’electricite. C’est pas evident de trouver des lampes de poche et des chandelles, surtout si elles sont emballées dans des boîtes quelque part dans la maison et vous n’avez pas une idée d’où elles sont.

10 / 11 / 12 / 13 Décembre,
J’ai travaillé 2 jours et j’ai commencé a m’habituer au bureau. Les choses vont bien du cote travail et je rencontre tout plein de monde . Les 2 autres jours ont été passés a deballer des boites. La maison commence tranquillement a ressembler a une maison. Les choses sont en train de s’organiser et c’est un peu plus vivable. On a encore bien des choses a faire mais c’est quand meme pas mal mieux.

Pendant la fin de semaine, nous avons pris une petite pause et on est allé se promener un peu. J’ai trouvé 2 nouvelles géocaches. Les 2 premieres dans la région, tout près de la maison.

14 / 15 Décembre,
J’ai dû retourner à Terre-Neuve pour le tribunal. On n’est pas encore installé qu’il faut déjà que je voyage.

16 / 17 / 18 Décembre,
De retour au travail. Je commence a me familiariser avec le monde et avec le travail. A date ca va pas mal bien et je devrais avoir du plaisir dans ma nouvelle position.

Le plus le fun, c’est que je suis en congé pour les 2 prochaines semaines. Je ne travaille pas avant le 4 Janvier.

19 Décembre,
On est allé faire des achats de Noël. Je pense que tout est terminé. Wow, on devrait etre pret à temps.

On va pouvoir passer les 2 prochaines semaines en famille et relaxer un peu. Dès que la maison est finie, je vais prendre quelques photos et les poster sur mon blog.

C’etait donc la grande aventure pour le dernier mois. C’est vraiment quelque chose de demenager et surtout dans le temps des fetes. J’espère que je n’aurai pas à revivre l’expérience de si tot et surtout pas si près de Noel.

What a day!  We started looking at houses today.  We visited 7 houses and drove in front of about ½ a dozen.  It is surprising how nice houses look on the internet and how different it is when you see them for real.

Of all the ones we visited, there is only one that is on our interesting list:

There is another one but this one is brand new and expensive.

Everything we see is either new and way too big for us, did I say expensive?  Or it is old, about the right size, the right price range but in terrible shape.  Why can’t we find something that would be right in the middle?

We had a chance to drive around and get a better idea of the area.  All around Oromocto and Fredericton is quite nice.  We even saw 3 deers.

Tonight we went by ourselves and drove around some more.  We saw a few more houses, more expensive than expected, we will visit them tomorrow and we will see from that.

All that to say it is not easy to shop for a house.

2009-10-27 Tuesday

We were up at 05:30am, couldn’t sleep, too much on my mind I suppose.  We went and drove around for a while and looked at more houses.

I had a chance to drop at work.  I met the boss and we had a good chat.  Guess what?  I will have my own office.   Cool!

Around 10:00 we met with the real estate agent.  We drove around again and visited 8 more houses.  After a while it is getting quite confusing, you can’t remember what you have seen and what was the details you liked or disliked about them.

So far all the houses we have seen would required a lot of work to be done, paint, roofs in some of them, change carpet, windows, etc…. and they are quite expensive for the amount of work that would need to be done.

So we ended up looking at 2 brand new ones.

One of those new ones is the one we saw on the first day that we felt was too big and too expensive, but the seller has dropped the price for us. They are more expensive then we were planning, but they are really nice.  Wow…  Quite a difference with the others we have seen so far.  So right now we are thinking that it will be one of these 2.  I suppose we will have to check our expenses and tighten our belt for the next few years.

2009-10-28 Wednesday

This morning is basically set aside to choose between those 2 houses.  One bigger and all finished, a little pricey and the other one smaller, very slightly cheaper but with still a nice bit of work to be done on it.

It took us all morning, but we made our choice.  We decided to try with the big one all finished.  We placed an offer and the seller came back with a counter offer and we accepted it.

So we are technically owners of a new house.  Just the paperwork left to do, lawyer, inspection, mortgage etc…

for the rest of the afternoon, we went shopping.  We bought a new dishwasher to be delivered at the new house and installed before we move in.

2009-10-29 Thursday
Today we only had to see the lawyer and then meet the home inspector.  We did both, paperwork had been started with the lawyer.  The inspector did what he had to do and gave us quite a report.  Nothing wrong with the house, as expected since it is a new one.

Then we went to get insurance, there too the paperwork is started, couldn’t get in right away as we had conflicting appointments, we will see him again tomorrow.  we also dropped by the schools and got all the information needed to get the children attending in December.

We finished the day doing a little shopping, looking for the best deal on internet, phone, tv etc… and then we went for a little walk on the side of the Oromocto river, quite nice, there is a lot of potential for photos. (these one were taken by Lucie)

2009-10-30 Friday
The only thing official we have to do today is setting up the insurance for the house.  this was done first thing in the morning.  After that we went for a little shopping.  We need mirrors for the 2 bathrooms, mail box, did I tell you we will have mail delivery at home, first time in 20 years.  We won’t have to go out for the mail, we will get the bills faster.

In the afternoon we took a walk in the park behind the house.  It is a big park with lot of potential for photos again.  I should have no problem getting a photo of the week, every week.

We got news in the afternoon that our mortgage has been approved, so we are good to go.  The only thing left to do really is the paperwork.  So we are officially owner of a new house.  The closing date is December 04th.

2009-10-31 Saturday
This morning was relaxed, we had nothing on the agenda, so we started packing.  Later on we will be going for breakfast and at the same time we will meet the member that I am replacing in Oromocto.  Hopefully I will get a better idea of the work ahead.

Then it was the return home.  Both flights were a little bumpy but went well.

We are back home, the kids are fine, they missed us, the house is still standing…  So everything is well.

Only a few hours after we came back, I got called out for work.  No need to tell you how I fell about that.  If December 04th can arrive, it won’t be too soon.

My impression of Oromocto is that we are going to like the place.  It is really a family oriented town with all the services available but at the same time with nature and country just a walk away.

Now we have to clean up this house and make all the arrangements for the move.

2009-10-26, Lundi
Toute qu’une journee, On a commence a visiter des maisons. On en a visite 7 et on a passe en avant d’environ ½ douzaine.  C’est surprenant comment elles ont l’air bien sur l’internet et la difference quand on les voit en vrai.

De toutes celles que nous avons visitées, il n’y en a qu’une qui nous interesse.

En fait il y en a une autre, mais celle-ci est une maison neuve et pas mal plus chere.

Tout ce que nous voyons est soit neuf, trop grand pour nos besoins et pas mal plus cher.  Les autres sont des maisons plus agees, avec le bon prix mais dans des etats lamentables. Pourquoi qu’on est pas capable de trouver quelque chose entre les deux?

On a eu la chance de se promener pas mal dans Oromocto et aux alentours de Fredericton.  C’est pas mal bien comme region. On a meme vu 3 chevreuils.

Ce soir on est alle se promener un peu. On a trouve d’autres maisons, la encore plus cheres que prevu.  On va aller les voir demain et voir ce que ca a l’air en-dedans.

Tout ça pour dire que ce n’est pas evident de magasiner pour une maison.

2009-10-27 Mardi
On s’est réveillé a 05h30 ce matin, pas capable de dormir, trop de choses a penser j’imagine. On est parti de bonne heure et on est aller voir d’autres maisons.

On a arrete au bureau et j’ai eu la chance de rencontrer mon nouveau boss.  On a eu une bonne conversation. Je vais avoir mon propre bureau. Cool!

Vers 10h00 on a rencontre notre agent d’immeuble. On s’est promene un peu et on a visite 8 autres maisons. Après un bout de temps ca devient difficile, on ne se rappelle plus des details des maisons qu’on a deja vues et les comparaisons entre chacune d’entre elle.

Jusqu’à présent, toutes les maisons qu’on a vues exigent soit beaucoup de renovations, la peinture, le toit, tapis a changer, fenetres, etc … les maisons sont pas mal cheres pour la quantité d’ouvrage qu’on devrait investir dedans.

Donc on se retrouve avec 2 maisons neuves qui nous intéressent plus que toutes les autres.  Elle sont pas mal plus cheres que prevus mais elles sont vraiment bien. Wow … Toute une différence avec les autres qu’on a vu a date. On pense que ca va etre une de ces deux-la. Va falloir faire attention au budget et se serrer la ceinture pour les prochaines annees.

C’est donc entre ces deux la:

On va retourne les voir demain matin et peut-etre prendre une decision.

2009-10-28 Mercredi

Ce matin a ete mis de cote pour choisir entre les 2 maisons neuves. Une qui est plus grande et toute finie, un tout pl’tit peu plus chere (la jaune) et une qui est plus petite mais qui n’est pas completement finie, un peu moins chere.

Ca nous a pris toute l’avant-midi mais on a pris une decision. On a decide pour la jaune, faqu’on a fait une offre, le vendeur est revenu avec une contre-offre et on l’a accepte.

Donc, on est techniquement propriétaires d’une maison neuve. Juste la paperasse a faire, avocat, inspection, banque, etc ..

Pour le reste de l’après-midi, On est alle magasiner. On a achete un nouveau lave-vaisselle.  On va le faire livrer a la maison et le vendeur va l’installer pour nous.

2009-10-29 Jeudi

Aujourd’hui, on a juste a voir l’avocat et faire inspecter la maison. Nous avons fait les deux, la paperasse est commence avec l’avocat. L’inspecteur a fait son inspection et nous a donner un tres bon rapport. Tout est correct, comme prevu, c’est une maison neuve.

Puis on est passe a la compagnie d’assurance.  La encore on a commence la paperasse mais on va devoir revenir car on avait un autre rendez vous, on va y retourner demain pour tout completer.  On as aussi passer a l’ecole et on as tout arranger pour l’inscription des enfants.

On a continue la journee a magasiner à la recherche des meilleures aubaines pour l’internet, le téléphone, la télévision, etc .. et pour finir en beaute on est alle prendre une marche sur le bord de la riviere  Oromocto, un beau petit coin avec beaucoup de possibilite pour prendre des photos. 2009-10-30 Vendredi
La seule chose a faire aujourdhui et de completer l’assurance pour la maison. Ca a été fait en tout début de matinée. Après cela, On est alle se promener dans les magasins.  On a besoin de mirroirs pour les 2 salles de bains et une boîte aux lettres.  Et oui on va avoir la livraison du courrier directement a la maison, la première fois en 20 ans. On aura pas a sortir pour aller chercher le courrier, j’imagine que les factures vont juste arriver plus vite.

Dans l’après-midi on a ete prendre une marche dans le parc derriere la maison. Il s’agit d’un grand parc avec beaucoup de potentiel pour faire des photos. Je n’aurai aucun problème pour faire les photos de la semaine, chaque semaine.

Dans l’apres midi on a recu des nouvelles de la banque.  Notre pret hypothecaire a ete approuve, tout va bien. Il ne reste que la paperrasse. On est donc officiellement propriétaires d’une maison neuve. La date de la prise de possession est le 4 décembre.

2009-10-31 Samedi
Ce matin, ca a ete pas mal plus relaxe, on a juste a paquetter nos valises. Un peu plus tard on va aller dejeuner et rencontrer la personne que je remplace a Oromocto. Ca va me donner une petite idee de ce que je vais faire.

Ensuite ca a ete le retour a la maison. On s’est fait brasser un peu mais ca s’est quand meme bien passe.

A notre arrivee a la maison, les enfants etaient corrects, ils se sont ennuyes, la maison est encore debout … Donc tout va bien.

Quelques heures apres notre retour, je me suis fait appeller a l’ouvrage. Pas besoin de vous dire que j’etais pas mal content….  J’ai tellement hate que le 4 decembre arrive, ca va pas etre trop tot.

J’ai eu une tres bonne impression de Oromocto, je suis pas sur qu’on va aime l’endroit. C’est une ville qui a tout pour la famille, mais en même temps avec la nature juste à quelques pas.

Maintenant, on doit nettoyer la maison ici et tout arranger pour les demenageurs.

So many things to do in so little time.

First we need to get a pre-approved mortgage, then do a house hunting trip. It is not obvious, but we will have but a week to find a house for the next few years. It is usually a decision that take months to make, in our case we have about a week to make it.

When we have the house we need to plan all that is moving related. Calling the mover, deciding on a date, getting all the information for the schools. etc…

We will need to get all our service disconnected, phone, electricity, satellite etc.

Then when all the stuff is gone, we need to clean the house from top to bottom. So the next 2.5 months will be quite busy. Then we start over when we get to the destination. Unpacking everything, getting all the services back. Getting the kids back in school…

Kim and Alain are happy with the move. Vincent has decided to stay in Newfoundland, so he will not come with us in New Brunswick. I am not quite sure what he has planned, I just hope it is for the best.

Probably a few headaches ahead, but it’s going to be an adventure.

Ça y est, c’est officiel, j’ai reçu les papiers aujourd’hui. On demenage a Oromocto, Nouveau-Brunswick et on doit etre la avant le 16 decembre.

Donc il y aura surement quelques maux de tête, mais c’est quand même comme une nouvelle aventure.

We will be closer to our family, 6hrs drive from Quebec City and 8 hrs from Montreal. The best part is no more ferry.

Oromocto is located in the south part of New Brunswick, about 20 minutes drive from Fredericton.

With that comes all the work associated with moving. We need to find and buy a new house. We need to clean this one, get the movers in, etc….

So lots of work in a short period of time. Basically we have 3 months to get to our new location.

The kids are excited about the move and quite happy.

A big adventure.

J’ai reçu des nouvelles hier. On est transferré. On s’en va a Oromocto au Nouveau-Brunswick. On a attendu 20 ans pour se rapprocher un peu de la maison et de la famille. Ca va finalement se realiser. Des fois j’ai des émotions partagés à propos de ça. Je suis très content de me rapprocher mais en même temps, ca va faire drole parce qu’on a quand même appellé Terre-Neuve notre chez nous depuis les 20 dernières années.

On va etre plus proche de la famille, a peu pres 6h de route de la ville de Québec et de 8 hres de Montréal. Ce qui est vraiment bien, c’est qu’on n’aura plus de traversier à prendre.

Oromocto est situé dans la partie sud du Nouveau-Brunswick, environ 20 minutes de route de Fredericton.

Mais avant de partir on a pas mal d’ouvrage a faire pour le demenagement. On va devoir aller se trouver une nouvelle maison. On a besoin de nettoyer celle ci, faire venir les demenageurs, etc …

Donc on a beaucoup de travail dans une période de temps assez courte. En fin de compte, on a 3 mois pour se rendre a notre nouvel emplacement.

Les enfants sont pas mal excités et contents du transfert.

Une grande aventure quoi!

After these 2 doctor appointments, early in the evening, I stumbled across a vehicle fire on my way home. By the time I got there everything was over and they were cleaning up the road.

When I got home we all decided to go for a little walk. We did a little trail by the visitor center. It was a nice day, no wind at all. We told Alain that he should come with us and that it was going to be an easy and short walk. Oops we were wrong… First we took a wrong turn somewhere and it end up being much longer than expected (I didn’t take my GPS). Also we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. Alain is still talking about it.  I am sure that he won’t believe us the next time we tell him we’re going for a small trail. In the meantime I was able to get some nice photos.

On March 07 1989, I joined the force. So this year is my 20th anniversary as a member. Can you imagine, it has been 20 years already, it seems like yesterday that we moved to Newfoundland. On Thursday, we all attended the award presentation ceremony. We made it a special day just for that. We had to get the kids out of school in the middle of exam week, I think Kim and Alain didn’t mind that at all. So we went to Stephenville, about 2.5 hrs drive from here. I had to wear my red serge (can you believe It still fits after all those years?  Tight a little, but it still fits) During the ceremony I received my long service medal for 20 years of service. So 20 years done, what next… Another 20, not likely but at least a few more.

J’etais en conge pour 3 jours. Vous savez deja ce qu’on a fait mardi, j’en ai parle dans ma derniere mise a jour. Le mercredi, j’avais quelque rendez-vous avec des docteurs. Ca fait maintenant partie de ma routine hebdomadaire. J’ai toujours dit qu’on devrait payer les docteurs quand on est en sante et arreter de les payer quand on est malade. De cette façon, ils se depecheraient de nous remettre en forme.

Apres mes 2 rendez-vous avec les docteurs, en debut de soiree, je suis tombe sur une scene d’accident sur mon chemin de retour, un vehicule en feu. Lorsque je suis arrive tout etait fini et ils etaient entrain de nettoyer la route.

Finalement quand je suis arrive a la maison, on a tous decider d’aller faire une petite promenade. On a ete faire un petit sentier au centre des visiteurs. C’etait une belle soiree sans vent. On a dit a Alain de venir avec nous et que ce serait une petite promenade facile, de courte distance. Oups, on s’est trompe … Tout d’abord, on a pris un mauvais tournant et ca a fini par etre plus long que prevu (je n’avais pas mon GPS). Ensuite on s’est fait manger tout cru par les moustiques. Alain en parle encore. Je suis sur que la prochaine fois il ne nous croira pas si on lui dit qu’on va faire un petit sentier. En attendant j’ai quand meme fait quelques photos interessantes.

Donc le jeudi, on est tous alle a la ceremonie de remise des medailles. On en a fait une journee speciale juste pour ca. On a du sortir les enfants de l’ecole en plein millieu des examens de fin d’annee, Kim et Alain ne s’en sont pas plaint.  Vincent travaillait et comme c’etait seulement sa quatrieme journee pour le Parc, il ne pouvait pas vraiment deja demande un conge donc il n’a pas pu venir avec nous. On est donc alle a Stephenville, c’est a environ 2,5 heures de route d’ici. J’ai du porter mon red serge (mais il me fait encore, meme apres 20 ans, c’est serre un peu, mais quand meme…) Durant la ceremonie, j’ai reçu ma medaille d’anciennete pour 20 ans de service. Bon 20 ans de fait, c’est quoi qui suit… Un autre 20, je ne pense pas, mais tout du moins quelque annees de plus.

Victoria day in Canada and more especially in Newfoundland is the indication that summer is near. It is the week end when people go for the first time of the season to the campground or the cabin and is the official start of the summer. Although it doesn’t feel like summer just yet, people still opened the cabins for the season. During the week-end we found other indication that summer was close as you can see on the photos.

Now I am off duty for 4 days. This is my long week end, a few days late. I am not planning to do much, sitting at my computer and watching kayak video and thinking that it could be me. For the people who have never experienced paddling here is a link with 10 reasons to start paddling.

I have some physiotherapy appointments in the next few days, will see how it goes. So far that shoulder is not doing much better and I don’t have much hope of doing some kayak this summer. I will keep watching video.

I have started going to the gym with Alain and Lucie. I am doing some treadmill and my shoulder exercises. At least I will be in good shape by the time I will be able to sit in my kayak.

Une autre fin de semaine occuppee. Mais ce coup-la au travail. Un des incidents majeurs a ete un incendie. Personne n’a ete blesse, mais les proprietaires de la maison ont tout perdu.

La fete de la Reine au Canada, et plus particulierement a Terre-Neuve est une indication que l’ete est proche. C’est la fin de semaine ou les gens vont au terrain de camping ou au chalet et marque le debut officiel de la saison estivale. Bien qu’on n’a pas l’impression que c’est l’ete encore, les gens vont quand meme ouvrir leur chalet pour la saison. Durant la fin de semaine on a eu d’autres indications que la saison estivale etait commencee, comme vous pouvez le voir sur les photos.

Maintenant, je suis en congé pour 4 jours. C’est ma longue fin de semaine, un peu en retard a comparer a tout le monde. Je n’ai rien de planifie, juste rester assis devant mon ordinateur et regarder des videos de kayak et surtout imaginer que ca pourrait etre moi. J’ai quelque rendez-vous au physio dans les prochains jours, on va voir ce que ca va dire. Jusqu’a date ca ne fait pas grande difference, faque je n’ai pas beaucoup d’espoir de faire de kayak cet été. Je vais donc me contenter de regarder des videos.

J’ai commence a aller au gym avec Alain et Lucie. Je fait du tapis roulant et mes exercices pour mon epaule. Au moins je vais etre en bonne forme quand je vais enfin pouvoir aller faire du kayak.

Finalement un bande sonore drole au sujet d’un repondeur pour une station de police.

Talking about weather, we had a few nice days around here. Almost felt like spring. But it was short lived. Just the same  a good amount of snow melted.

Last week on Thursday I was working and some of the things I had to do was to locate someone in one of the communities. Anyway went to lots of houses, got even chased by a dog, not really a good day but got the job done. I was on my way home, got out of the car and slipped on some ice. I end up face first on the pavement, in the process I cut my nose, busted my shoulder and bruised my knee. There was blood and coffee all over the place (had my coffee travel mug with me). I don’t mind the blood but I lost a perfectly good cup of coffee. I end up at the hospital at the emergency. They took x-rays of my face, told me that my shoulder was just a pulled muscle and they didn’t even look at my knee.

Next day was back to work as usual.

On Saturday March 07, it was Alain Birthday. The plan was to go to Corner Brook, Alain wanted to have a game of laser tag and then we were planning to go to the restaurant. The weather had other plans for us. As the driving condition was not the best, we stayed in Rocky Harbour on Saturday, but we still went the restaurant.
 
The next day, the weather was much better so we left, Alain and one of his friend, Lucie and myself and went to Corner Brook. We played 2 games of laser tag. Lucie beat us on both of them. We had lots of fun.

Then on Monday, I got a call from the Doctor at the emergency telling me that she had looked at the x-rays and believed that something is broken. As she is not sure, she told me that I had to go to Corner Brook for a cat scan. In the meantime, my shoulder was still bothering me quite a lot, still having some pain. So I took an appointment to see my family doctor. Both appointments end up on Wednesday.

So here I am Wednesday morning at the doctor. He checked my shoulder and tells me that I have a rotating cuff injuries (whatever that is) and would need some x-rays done. In the meantime he took me off work for a week. Then I went to Corner Brook and got the x-ray for the shoulder and the cat scan for the face done. Nobody ever told me that a cat scan machine look like some of the gadgets on star trek…

So now I am here, home for a week and awaiting the result of all the scan and x-rays. Still having shoulder pain. I think I have seen more doctors in the past week than in the past year.

Yesterday, it was Vincent turn to celebrate a birthday. He just turned 19 years old. He is now of legal age in this province. We went to the restaurant. I suspect now that this is an conspiracy, I really think that Lucie started this tradition of going to the restaurant on birthdays to avoid the dishes. I will have to investigate.

Now all the birthday are done, next one is in June. Will give us a little break, well…  Not from the dishes for Lucie though…

Bon bien je ne suis pas sur par ou commencer. Le debut je suppose …. Retour en arriere au 23 Fevrier, j’ai eu une journee pas mal relaxe au bureau. J’ai participe as un cours de motoneige qui a ete organise par le bureau. Et bien oui, j’ai du apprendre comment utiliser une motoneige. Je dois dire que j’ai eu une tres bonne journee, meme si la temperature n’etait pas de notre cote. On a eu de la neige, de la poudrerie et du vent et en plus il faisait froid. Ca a quand meme été l’un descours les plus agréablesque j’ai suivi avec ce travail. J’ai meme appris quelques petites choses.

En parlant de temperature, On a eu des bonnes journees dernierement. Presque le printemps, mais malheuresement ca a ete de tres courte duree. Il y a quand meme pas mal de neige qui a fondue.

La semaine dernière, Jeudi, je travaillais et je devais trouver quelqu’un dans une des communautes. Je me suis retrouve a cogner aux portes, traverser des cours, je me suis meme fait courrir apres par un chien. Le travail ordinaire quoi. J’ai finalement trouve l’individu que je cherchais. A mon retour, je suis sorti de la voiture et j’ai glisse sur la glace. Je me retrouve face premiere sur l’asphalte. Le resultat a ete une coupure sur le nez, je me suis magane l’epaule et je me suis fait un gros bleu sur le genou. Il y avait du sang et du café un peu partout (j’avais ma tasse de voyage avec moi.) Le sang me derange pas vraiment, mais c’etait quand meme du beau gaspillage de café. Faque je me suis ramasse a l’hopital. Ils ont pris des radiographies de mon nez et m’ont dit que mon epaule etait seulement un muscle etire et ils n’ont meme pas regarder mon genou.

Le lendemain, c’etait le retour au travail comme d’habitude.

Samedi le 07 Mars, c’etait la fete a Alain. On avait prevu aller a Coener Brook, Alain voulait aller jouer au Laser Tag et ensuite on avait prevu aller au restaurant. Comme d’habitude la meteo n’a pas coopere. Comme la conduite n’etait recommandee, on est reste a Rocky Harbour. On a quand meme ete au restaurant.

Comme le lendemain la temperature etait pas mal meilleure, on est parti pour Corner Brook. Il y avait Alain, un de ses copains, Lucie et moi. On a joue 2 parties de Laser Tag, Lucie nous a tous battus a platte couture. Mais en fin de compte on a eu bien du plaisir.

 
Lundi, j’ai recu un appel du medecin de l’urgence qui me disait qu’elle avait regarde les radiographies et qu’elle pensait que j’avais quelque chose de casse mais elle n’etait pas sure. Elle m’a dit que je devais aller a Corner Brook pour avoir un Cat Scan. En attendant, mon epaule continuait a m’achaler pas mal, avec pas mal de douleur. J’ai donc pris un rendez vous avec mon medecin de famille. Les deux rendez-vous on ete arrangé pour mercredi.

Donc Mercredi matin, rendez vous avec le docteur de famille. Il m’a regarde l’epaule et ma dit que c’etait une blessure du joint et que ca allait prendre des radiographies. En attendant, il m’a mis en arret de travail pour une semaine. Donc en sortant je suis parti a Corner Brook. Ils ont fait une radiographie de mon epaule et ensuite un Cat Scan de mon visage. Personne ne m’avait dit que les appareils de Cat Scan ressemblait a des gadge de star trek …

Donc je suis la a attendre les resultats de tous ces tests. J’ai encore de la douleur a l’epaule. Je pense que j’ai vu plus de docteurs la semaine derniere que durant la derniere annee.

Bon hier c’etait la fete a Vincent. Il vient d’avoir 19 ans, faque la il est majeur dans la province. On a encore ete au restaurant. Je pense que tout ca, le restaurant les jours de fete c’est un plan a Lucie pour ne pas faire de vaisselle. Je vais devoir faire une enquete pour voir c’est qui qui a commence cette tradition-la. Ensuite Vincent est parti sur le party…..

Toutes les fetes sont passees pour un petit bout. La prochaine va etre en juin. Ca va nous donner un peu de repos…  Ben pas pour Lucie avec la vaisselle par exemple…

For a change the weather was nice the last few days, we even saw blue sky, this is quite something different lately however he had extreme cold weather.

There is not much new in the past weeks because of all this travel. Other than spending several days in hotels and eating in restaurant. I can’t wait to get back home in my stuff and not have to live out of a suitcase.

I just found out earlier today that I might be going to Niagara Falls in April for the National Canadian DARE conference. It is not sure yet, but there are some good chances that it will happen. I will have to find out about all this when I go back to work. I will let you know when I find out.

Today the RCMP members in Rocky Harbour (minus me, I am in St John’s) were having a hockey game against the high school students. My understanding from talking to Lucie last night is that Vincent might be doing the Safety bear during the event. Hopefully Lucie will attend the game and we will have some photos to show you.

That is it, at least that occupied some of my waiting time here in the airport. By the time I will publish this update I hope that I will have photos to add to it.

This is it, I am now back home. I worked today and just taking the time tonight to finish this update. Unfortunately we have no photos of the hockey game or of Vincent as the safety bear. Lucie had a busy day and had to take Alain to the hospital, at the time they suspected that he might have broken a finger again. But it turns out it wasn’t broken.

Good thing is that I have to work only one more day and then I am off for 4, not sure yet what I will be doing, hopefully relax and take it easy.

Je suis presentement a l’‘aeroport a St Jean a attendre mon avion. C’est Jeudi apres midi et mon avion ne part pas avant 05h00 heures .. J’ai donc 2 heures a attendre alors j’ai decide d’ecrire mon blog. Je suis parti de la maison depuis mardi. Mardi et mercredi, je me suis ramasse a Corner Brook a suivre un cour, ensuite Mercredi j’ai pris l’avion a Deer Lake pour St Jean. Le pourquoi du voyage a St-Jean? Je devais temoigner en Cour Supreme ce matin. Donc des que je suis arrive a St Jean je me suis ramasse au bureau de l’avocat et on a discute de l’evenement pendant environ une heure. Le pire dans tout ca c’est que mon temoingnage n’a dure que 45 minutes. 2 jours de voyage pour 45 minutes de t/moignage, et bien en tout cas…

Pour faire changement on a eu du beau temps ces dernier jours, on a meme vu du ciel bleu, c’est pas mal different surtout apres toute la neige qu’on a eu. Malheureusement il faisait froid.

Il n’y a pas grand chose de nouveau depuis la semaine derniere, surtout a cause du voyage. A part du fait que j’ai passe plusieurs jours dans des hotels et a manger du restaurant a tous les jours. J’ai bien hate de retourner a la maison et de me retrouver dans mes affaires et ne pas a vivre de mes valises.

Je viens d’apprendre un peu plus tot aujourd’hui, que je vais peut-etre aller a Niagara Falls au mois d’avril pour une conference Canadienne de DARE. Ca a l’air que j’ai des bonnes chances, des que j’ai des nouvelles je vais vous le laisser savoir.

Aujourd’hui, les membres de la GRC de Rocky Harbour (moins moi, je suis à St John’s) ont eu un match de hockey contre les eleves de l’ecole secondaire. Si j’ai bien compris, apres avoir parle a Lucie hier soir, c’est Vincent qui va faire le Safety Bear. En esperant que Lucie va y aller et prendre quelques photos, surtout de Vincent en Safety Bear.

Tout ca vient de m’occupper un peu en attendant pour mon vol. Des que je reviens a la maison je vais publier mon blog et j’aurai peut-etre quelques photos a ajouter.

Ça y est, je suis arrive a la maison. J’ai travaille aujourd’hui et ce soir je finis d’ecrire le blog. Malheureusement on n’a pas de photo de Vincent en Safety Bear. Lucie a ete pas mal occuppee le jour de la partie de hockey, elle a du emmener Alain a l’hopital. Il s’est fait mal au doigt et tout le monde pensait qu’il etait casse encore. Bonne nouvelle il n’est pas casse.

Bon une autre journee de travail et ensuite je suis en conge pour 4 jours. Je ne sais pas encore ce que je vais faire, j’espere que je vais prendre ca relaxe et me la couler douce.

The rest of the course went very well. On Wednesday we talked about the law and reviewed some case law in the morning and in the afternoon we learned about interrogations for the rest of the day. On Thursday morning we finished the interrogation techniques. We then spend the afternoon practicing and preparing for an interrogation on Friday morning. On Thursday night we all went to a pub and had supper and beer. That was good after spending all week in class. Friday morning we did our interrogation, mine went well and that was it.    

I left Stephenville at around 11:00am. We drove to Corner Brook where I got a lift with another member to Pasadena. From ther I left with another member who dropped me at the Tim Horton’s in Deer Lake.  Lucie picked me up over there. On the way home we saw 3 moose on the side of the road. After a few minutes and several photos we drove home.

It is nice to be back home after spending a week in an hotel. I wasn’t home for few hours that the office called me. I swear to God they must track me with a satellite to know  at all time where I am. Just found out that the day off I was supposed to have from Wednesday to Sunday are now gone. I have to attend court as a witness in Harbour Grace on Thursday and Friday. It is bad and good at the same time. The bad thing is that now I will not be off until Sunday may 6th, which means 17 days in a row without a day off. The good thing is that I was going that way on Friday anyway for Vincent. He is having his provincial french speak off competition on Saturday. This means that the RCMP will pay for the trip because of the court. If I am lucky I will be able to take a police car, won’t have to pay for gas and they will pay the hotel until Saturday. That way I will save some money.

It is back to work tomorrow night. Wonder what work is waiting for me at the office.

In the meantime, new moose photos in my gallery and there is also a new time lapse. This one was done from my hotel room window just before sunset. Have a look.

Je suis enfin de retour à la maison. Le reste du cours c’est bien passé. Mercredi matin on a parlé de la loi et de certain cas de jurisprudence et dans l’après-midi on a appris à faire des interrogations pour le reste de la journee. Jeudi matin on a fini les techniques d’interrogation. Ensuite on a passé l’apres midi a pratiquer et préparer une interrogation pour vendredi matin. Jeudi soir on est tous allé pour souper dans un pub. Bonne bouffe et biere!  Apres avoir passer la semaine dans une classe ca a fait du bien. Vendredi matin nous avons fait notre interrogation, la mienne s’est bien déroulée.

On est parti de Stephenville à environ 11:00 AM.  À Corner Brook je me suis fait donné un lift par un autre membre qui m’a emmené jusqu’à Pasadena.  À Pasadena, j’ai embarqué encore une fois avec un autre membre qui m’a emmené jusqu’au Tim Horton à Deer Lake.  Lucie est venue me chercher à DeerLake. Sur le chemin du retour on a vu 3 orignaux sur le cote de la route. Apres quelque minutes et plusieures douzaines de photos on est reparti pour la maison.

Ca fait du bien d’etre de retour a la maison apres une semaine dans un hotel. Ça ne faisait pas une heure ou deux que j’étais à la maison que le bureau m’a appellé. Je suis pret a parier qu’ils me suivent par sattellite pour savoir ou je suis tout le temps. Je viens tout juste d’apprendre que je viens de perdre mes prochaines journees de conge qui aurait dû être de mercredi a dimanche. Je dois aller en court pour temoigner jeudi et vendredi a Harbour Grace, donc mercredi c’est sur la route. Ca a du bon et du mauvais. Le mauvais c’est que je vais avoir travailler pendant 17 jours sans une journee de conge. La bonne chose c’est que de toute facon on devait aller a St Jean Samedi pour le concours oratoire provincial a Vincent. Faque maintenant le bureau va payer une partie du voyage s’ils veulent que j’aille témoigner. Si je suis chanceux je vais pouvoir utiliser une auto de police pour y aller, comme ca ils vont devoir payer pour l’essence et pour l’hotel jusqua samedi. De cette façon je vais economiser un peu d’argent.

Et bien c’est de retour au travail demain soir, je me demande combien d’ouvrage m’attend au bureau.

En attendant, les nouvelles photos d’orignaux sont dans ma galerie il y a aussi bien une nouveau film de temps continu.
