Well we had 3 days of rain for my 3 days off. But still we were able to do a little bit between the clouds.
Since we came back from vacation, we were not too lucky weather wise. We were able to get into the kayak one afternoon on the August 08th. This was only a really short paddle, about ½ hour. We were also able to do a small trail, Berry Hill, we got there just for the sunset and got some nice photos.
Then I worked but that didn’t keep Lucie from going kayaking with Vincent. They went on Wednesday afternoon, both of them, while I was working hard… Always the same people having all the fun. That night we went for a little walk and later we took the kids stargazing.
Then on Thursday, Lucie decided to go camping with Alain. I worked all day, so after work I went and helped them set up the tent. Kim and I stayed with them a little for a nice campfire. The plan was that Kim and I would go the next day…. Guess what? The next day was my first day off and it rained.
It is not fair now, is it? Anyway the next morning, during a small break with no rain, Lucie and I went to take down the tent and pack everything. While there we decided to take a small walk on the Baker’s Brook fall trail. We did that one before, we just wanted to go and take some photos.
I am glad we did as about 4 km in the trail we saw a couple of moose right by the trail. It was the first time I saw some that close in the woods. I managed to get some good photos.

Tomorrow it is back to work.
Enfin de compte j’ai eu 3 jours de pluie pour mes 3 jours de conge. Malgre tout on a quand meme pu faire quelques choses entre deux nuages.
Depuis qu’on est revenu de vacances on n’a pas ete gaté coté temperature. On a ete capable de faire un peu de kayak durant la soiree du 8 août. C’était seulement une petite promenade de ½ heure. On a aussi pu faire un petit sentier, Berry Hill, on est arrivé là juste a temps pour le coucher de soleil, ca a donné quelques photos pas pire pantoute.
Ensuite je suis retourné au travail. Ca n’a pas empeché Lucie et Vincent d’aller faire du kayak. Ils y sont alles mercredi dans l’apres midi pendant que je travaillais tres fort. C’est tout le temps les mêmes qui ont tout le fun. Durant la soiree on a ete faire une petite promenade et ensuite on a emmené les enfants regarder les etoiles.
Jeudi, Lucie et Alain ont decidé d’aller faire du camping. Comme je travaillais toute la journee, apres l’ouvrage je suis allé leur donner un coup de main pour tout installer. Kim et moi sommes restés dans la soiree et on a eu un beau feu de camp. On avait decidé que la journee suivante ce serait au tour de Kim et moi d’aller camper. Devinez ce qui s’est passé? Il a plu et notre plan etait a l’eau. C’etait ma premiere journee de conge.
C’est pas vraiment juste, pas de kayak, pas de camping, mais coudonc! Le lendemain matin, Lucie et moi sommes retournés au terrain de camping pour tout demonter. Pendant qu’on etait la on a decidé d’aller se promener. Donc on a ete faire le sentier Baker’s Brook fall. Ce n’etait pas la premiere fois qu’on le faisait, mais on voulait juste aller faire un peu de photo.
Ca a bien adonné car a environ 4 kilometrea sur le sentier on s’est retrouver face a face avec un couple d’orignaux. C’etait la premiere fois que j’en voyais de si proche dans le bois. J’ai reussi a faire quelques photos qui sont très bien.

For those of you who wonder about my well-being since my blog yesterday… Well I am fine, I re-energized tonight, I am back to my old self. I got the dust off my kayak and went for a nice big paddle. I stayed local, I went around the harbour here in Rocky Harbour, I went past the lighthouse and back I had a really good time. It is nice to see everything from a different angle. The water was perfect, the weather was nice, not too much wind, a good day for kayaking. I did 7 km in about 2 hours.
I don’t have many photos as I can’t find my waterproof camera, I probably left it in one of the police car, at least I hope… Lucie took some from the shore.
So all in all a good day.
Pour ceux qui s’inquietent pour ma sante mentale depuis mon blog d’hier… et bien tout va tres bien, j’ai rechargé mes piles ce soir, je suis de retour a la normale. J’ai depousierré mon kayak et je suis allé faire un bon gros pagayage. Je suis resté dans le coin , juste autour de la baie de Rocky Harour. J’ai passé le phare de Lobster Cove Head et j’ai fait demi-tour. J’’ai bien apprecié. L’eau était parfaite, la temperature etait de mon coté, pas trop de vent, une bonne journée pour du kayak. J’ai fait 7 km en à peu près deux heures.
Je n’ai pas fait de photos car je ne trouve pas ma caméra à l’épreuve de l’eau. Elle est probablement dans une des autos de police, du moins je l’espere… Lucie en a pris quelques unes du rivage.

It’s been 17 days, 2 hours, and 56 minutes since I was last in my kayak in the middle of the water.
The worst part I am right by it, passing by each day, seeing the water all calm and in perfect kayak condition. Watching the sunset from the shore while I could be watching it from the water. Being so close and yet so far away is depressing. My life force is slowly fading away, it has a cumulative effect, I must go back and recharge. Must do kayak…must paddle…must feel the blade in the water…must go…ocean… water..ocean… Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
I had my first sell on e-bay this week. A camera bag that I got as part of a package I had purchased, but I didn’t need the bag as I had ordered another one already. I decided to give it a try to sell it instead of keeping it here collecting dust. It took two days and it was sold. Wow. I am now a seller, not just a buyer, cool! I will have more to sell soon.
Other than that the usual, work all week. Almost every day we went for a drive, to try to see some baby moose. I saw a few while working, now Lucie wants to see some as well. I have a lot of new photos, they are not in the gallery yet, I am still working on them. I found a new geocache, but did not do any new trails.
Today first day off out of 4. We took the kids to the insectarium in Deer Lake and then went grocery shopping. The next few days, I hope to do some trails. But I must also definitely go to the ocean…water….ocean…kayak… Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Ca fait 17 jours, 2 heures, 56 minutes depuis la derniere fois que j’etais dans mon kayak au milieu de l’eau. Le pire, c’est que je passe a coté tous les jours, je vois l’eau calme, les conditions parfaites tous les jours, je vois des couchers de soleil de la rive au lieu de les voir du millieu de l’eau. Être si pres et en meme temps si loin, c’est déprimant! Je sens ma force vital qui s’epuise lentement, ca a un effet cumulatif, je dois retourner sur l’eau et recharger mes batteries. Dois aller faire du kayak… doit pagayer… doit mettre ma lame dans l’eau… doit aller…ocean…eau. .ocean…… Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !
J’ai eu ma première vente sur E-Bay cette semaine. Un sac d’appareil-photo qui venait avec ma nouvelle caméra mais dont je n’avais pas besoin puisque j’en avais commander un autre. J’ai décidé d’essayer de le vendre plutôt que de le laisser ramasser la poussière dans la maison. Ca a juste pris 2 jours et il etait vendu. C’est pas pire pantoutte. Je suis donc un vendeur maintenant pas juste un acheteur. Je vais avoir plus a vendre bientot.
A part ca la vie habituelle. J’ai travaillé toute la semaine. Presque tous les jours on a ete faire des ballades en auto pour voir des bebes orignaux. J’en ai vu pendant que je travaillais mais Lucie veut en voir aussi. J’ai pas mal de nouvelles photos, mais elles ne sont pas dans ma galerie, il faut que je travaille encore dessus. J’ai trouvé une nouvelle geocache, mais je n’ai pas fait de nouveau sentier.
Aujourd’hui, premier jour de conge sur 4. On a ete a l’insectarium avec les enfants pres de Deer lake et ensuite on as ete faire la commande d’epicerie. Dans les jours à venir, j’espère faire quelques sentiers. Mais surtout, je dois definitivement aller à l’eau, faire du kayak….océan…kayak…océan…… Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !

8 caribous, 7 moose, 1 bald eagle, I goose, 1 rabbit, 2 birds feeding in our hand, one geocache and a kayak trip. This is the official list for my day.
It is hard to keep up updating this blog when you are so busy but it is fun. I had a good day. This morning I got up and the weather was nice, so we decided to go to Cow Head to find a Geocache. On the way we saw some moose and caribous. We found the geocache easily and then did a nice little trail. We took lots of photos. That is when we saw the Eagle. It was too far away for me to take a good picture, however Lucie did manage to get some.
On the way back, more moose and more caribou. We were too early to pick up the kids from school so we went to Berry Hill pond just to see if there was still snow on the road and if we would be able to get to the trail. We just went in the parking and we noticed some grey jays. They came really close, those little guys are not shy at all so we ended up picking up some granola bars from by backpack to see if they would come a bit closer. Indeed they did, they ended up eating from our hands, that was quite fun.
We hurried up to pick up the kids from school and took them back to the same location so they’d get to see the birds too. Unfortunately the birds were gone, so we took another small walk, in the process we saw the rabbit.
We went back home, had a quick supper and then we headed to Rocky Harbour Pond. I did about one hour of kayaking, it was a little bit windy but nice just the same. Again I had a real good time.
So now we are back home and I am trying to catch up with all my blog writing. The photos will have to wait until tomorrow before I put them in the gallery. That is if tomorrow is not too busy.
8 caribous, 7 orignaux, 1 aigle a tete blanche, une bernache, 1 lapin, 2 oiseaux qui sont venu manger dans nos main, une geocache et une sortie en kayak. C’est mon compte rendu pour la journee.
Ca commence a etre difficile de mettre a jour mon blog, il y a trop de chose qui se passe, mais ca vaut la peine. J’ai eu une tres bonne journée. Ce matin je me suis levé tôt et comme il faisait beau et que le temps était agréable on a decidé d’aller a Cow Head pour chercher une Geocache. Sur le chemin on a vu quelques orignaux et quelques caribous. On n’a pas eu de difficulté a trouver la geocache. Ensuite on a fait un sentier. J’ai pris un bon nombre de photos, c’est durant ce sentier qu’on a vu L’aigle. Je n’ai pas ete capable de le prendre en photo car il etait trop loin mais Lucie a pu.
Sur le chemin de retour, d’autres orignaux et d’autres caribous. Comme on etait trop tot pour aller chercher les enfants a l’ecole, on a decidé d’aller a Berry Hill pond pour voir si la route etait ouverte et pour voir si le sentier etait praticable. On est juste arrivé au stationement et c’est la qu’on a remaqué des geais gris. Ils sont venus tres pres de nous, ca fait que j’ai sorti une barre tendre de mon sac a dos pour voir si ils viendraient plus pres. Et bien oui, ils ont fini par venir manger dans nos mains.
On s’est depeché d’aller chercher les enfants a l’ecole pour y retourner avec les enfants, mais quand on est revenu, les oiseaux etaient partis. On est donc tous allé faire une petite marche, c’est a ce moment la qu’on a vu le lapin.
On est retourné a la maison, on a eu notre souper et ensuite on a ete a Rocky Harbour Pond ou j’ai fait a peu pres une heure de kayak. C’etait un peu venteux mais je me suis pas mal amusé quand meme.
Maintenant je suis de retour a la maison et j’essaie de mettre a jour mon blog. Les photos vont devoir attendre a demain avant d’etre mis dans ma galerie, si demain n’est pas trop occupé…

We had a few good and busy days… As mentionned previously, we went to Corner Brook on wednesday. We saw 4 moose during the trip. We then went back home and had a quick supper. All the family then went to Rocky Harbour lookout. We hid our first geocache, which is already registered on the official geocache’s website. While I was there I did a another time lapse of the sunset. This time it was quite nice, the only problem was it was windy and cold and for some reason my camera battery doesn’t like the cold and died before the end. But still came out quite nice. It is in my time lapse section.
Thursday, I got up early again, and this time we went to do a part of the Gros Morne trail. We did about 2 km that felt like about 10. There is still lots of snow and lots of water in the woods… By the time we got out, we were just soked and wet. While doing the trail, the office called me on my cell. They wanted me to go to work on the week end. I was able to tell them no! It is not something I do often but enough is enough…. First time in 18 years…
All day it was quite windy but around supper time the wind died down. That is all I needed, got the kayak on the roof of the van and we went to Mill Brooks.
The whole family came along. I wonder if they were hoping to see me fall in the water. Too bad for them because I did not. This sport can be quite addictive, while paddling I was telling myself, I will just go to the next point to see what is on the other side, then I would notice another one and say the same thing… By the time I came back to where I started I had done 4 km. On the way back, I had the setting sun right in front of me. The water was like a mirror. This was my first time watching a sunset in a kayak, hopefully not the last one. What a feeling, everything was calm and serene. This is exactly for these kind of moments I bought a kayak. What a good time!
While talking about kayak, on Wednesday I bought 2 small sleeping bags and I bought a small backpacking tent from e-bay. They are both extra small so I will be able to store them in my kayak. I plan on going for a kayaking week-end this summer.
Today, Friday it was too windy to even try kayaking, however it was nice and sunny. So we went to Trout River to find two geocaches. Both were on small trails heading to a lookout. After climbing for a while and huffing and puffing, we managed to find both of them. During the trip to and back from Trout River we saw 9 moose.
Tonight we went to Rocky Hill trail and hid another geocache. So this is my second one. By the way someone already found the first one we hid on wednesday. We had to come back home as it started to rain. We have another one ready and weather permitting we will hide it tomorrow.
So lots of fresh air and great outdoors during the last few days… Because of that I now need to work on all the photos that I took during those days and post them in my gallery, will be done soon. Also I am working on a way to be able to save all the location where we went on Google Earth. When I figure it out, I will do a new page with all my geocache find. Nous avons des bonnes journees dernièrement. Comme j’ai mentionné nous sommes allés a Corner Brook Mercredi. On a vu 4 orignaux durant le trajet. On est retournee a la maison et on a eu un souper en vitesse. On est tous (toute la famille) aller au belvedere de Rocky Harbour. On a cacher notre premier geocache, qui est déjà enregistré sur le site officiel de Geocaching. En meme temps j’en ai profité pour faire une autre serie de photo pour photo en temps continu. Une autre tentative a essayé de capturer un coucher de soleil. Cette fois il faisait beau, le seul problème c’est que c’etait venteux et froid et la batterie de ma camera n’aime pas ca. Elle est morte avant la fin du coucher de soleil. Mais ca a bien sorti quand meme, c’est dans ma section temps continu.
Jeudi matin, lever de bonne heure encore… Cette fois nous sommes alles faire une partie du sentier de Gros Morne. On a marché a peu pres 2 km qui ont semblés plutôt comme 10km. La raison c’est qu’il y as encore beaucoup de neige et d’eau dans les sentiers, par le temps qu’on est revenue a la voiture on avait tout les deux les pieds bien mouillés. En plein millieu du sentier j’ai recu un appel du bureau sur mon cellulaire me demandant si je pouvais rentrer travailler durant la fin de semaine. Et bien je leur ai dit non, faut dire que c’est pas quelque chose qui arrive souvent que je refuse, mais quand meme, il ont pas mal de front… C’etait la premiere fois en 18 ans que je dis non.
Durant toute la journee ca a ete pas mal venteux, mais juste un peu apres l’heure du souper le vent est tombé. C’est tout ce que j’avais besoin, j’ai mis le kayak sur le toit de la van est on est tous parti pour Mill Brooks.
Toute la famille est venue, je me demande s’ils esperaient me voir tomber dans la flotte. J’ai du les decevoir car je suis resté sec toute la soiree. Faire du kayak peut creer de la dependance. Je me promenais et je me disais, je vais aller voir apres la prochaine pointe de terre, rendu la j’en voyais une autre et me disais je vais aller voir ce qu’il y a de l’autre bord. Ca a donné que quand je suis revenu j’avais fait un peu plus de 4 km. En revenant j’avais le soleil en face de moi et j’ai eu droit a un vraiment beau coucher de soleil. L’eau était comme un miroir. C’etait mon premier coucher de soleil vu d’un kayak, j’espere que ce n’est pas le dernier. Tout etait calme et serein. C’est exactement pour ce genre de moment que j’ai acheté un kayak.
En parlant de kayak, mercredi j’ai acheté 2 petits sacs de couchage et j’ai commander une tente sur e-bay. Les deux sont petits et vont pouvoir se placer dans mon kayak. Je prevois aller faire une excursion d’une fin de semaine en kayak cette ete.
Aujourd’hui, vendredi, c’etait trop venteux pour faire du kayak faqu’on a decidé d’aller chercher des geocaches. On est donc parti pour Trout River. Les deux geocaches etait cachés à des points d’observation. Apres avoir perdu notre souffle une couple de fois et s’etre plaint d’etre trop vieux et de trop fumer, on les a trouvés tous les deux. Durant le trajet (aller et retour) on a vu 9 orignaux. Tout de suite apres le souper on a ete a Rocky Hill et on a caché un autre geocache avec les enfants. On a du revenir a la maison car il a commencé a plevoir. On espère en cacher une autre demain si la temperature le permet. D’ailleurs quelqu’un a déjà trouvé le premier geocache que nous avons placé mercredi.
Durant les derniers jours j’ai pris ma dose de grand air et d’exercices. Ca donne que maintenant je doit travaillé sur toutes les photos que j’ai prises ces derniers jours et les mettre dans ma galerie. Je vais faire ca bientot. Je vais aussi essayer de voir s’il y a moyen de sauver tous les endroits que l’on visite sur Google Earth. Si je trouve comment faire je vais faire une nouvelle page avec tous mes geocaches. I did it. Yes I did, I finally went kayaking this morning! I got up early as the kids were going to school. I had a breakfast and coffee and then it was the adventure. The weather was nice, cloudy, warmer and almost no wind here by the house.
The plan was that Lucie would drop me off, she would go take some photos in the area and then pick me up a little later. I got all dressed up, wetsuit, new paddling jacket, thermal underwear and I was ready to go. When you have all this clothing on it is quite warm when you are indoors….
On the way to the launching spot, Lucie noticed some wild ducks and said that she would go back for photos later. Right now there are not too many spot on the side of the road that are clear of snow where you can launch a kayak. However over the last few days I had noticed one, not the best one, but one just the same.
The first thing I noticed when I arrived is the wind, it wasn’t windy by the house but it was quite windy on the side of the water. There were some nice little waves. I was there with my kayak and all my gear, there was no way I was going to turn around. The least I could do is play a little bit in the water and try it out.
So I went, facing the wind, I figured that way it would be easier when I would return with the wind at my back. So I went to the end of a point and got a bit of a surprise on the other side of it, it was even windier. So I turned around and went back. As I approached my landing spot, Lucie was not around so I kept on going a little bit the other way and I noticed a nice little beach so decided to go and get a little rest, have a smoke and do some photos. I did not take any while in the kayak as it was a bit windy and I was concentrating in steering the kayak. So I got to the beach, there was a mix of ice and snow about 10 feet to the sand. I landed and I didn’t notice this, but the sand was kind of frozen and as soon as I tried to get out, the kayak went sliding back and I ended up sitting in the water. Did I tell you that wetsuit really work? I am telling you now… I was quite fine, only my feet were cold. So I had my cigarette, took some photos and managed to get back in the kayak to head back to where Lucie would pick me up. By that time she was waiting for me.
All and all, I had a really good time. For the first trip of of the season, this was a memorable one. I just checked the map on my gps and that little trip was about 4.5 km. Not bad for the first time this year.

Bon c’est fait. Et oui, je suis finalement allé faire du kayak ce matin. Je me suis levé tôt, juste comme les enfants partaient pour l’ecole. Je me suis fait à dejeuner, mon petit café et c’etait le depart pour l’aventure. La temperature etait pas mal, nuageux un peu, doux et presque pas de vent, du moins ici a la maison.
Le plan était que Lucie allait me deposer et elle irait prendre des photos dans le coin et quand elle aurait fini elle viendrait me chercher. Je me suis tout habillé, wetsuit, nouveau blouson de kayak, sous-vêtements thermiques et j’étais pret. Quand on a tout ca sur le dos, je vous dis qu’il fait pas mal chaud surtout dans la maison.
Sur le chemin Lucie a vu des canards sauvages (Grand Bec-Scie) et a dit qu’elle reviendrait plus tard pour faire des photos. Presentement il n’y as pas beaucoup d’endroits ou on peut lancer un kayak a l’eau, le cote de la route est encore pas mal enneigée. Mais les dernier jours j’avais remarqué un endroit, pas le meilleur endroit mais c’en est un quand meme.
La première chose j’ai remarqué en arrivant c’est le vent. Sur le bord de l’eau il y en avait pas mal, assez pour faire de la vague. Mais j’étais rendu, j’avais mon kayak et j’etais tout habillé. Retourner à la maison n’a même pas été considéré. Le moins que je pouvais faire etait d’aller au moins faire un petit tour pour m’amuser un peu.
Donc je suis parti, j’ai decidé de faire face au vent en partant, je me suis dit que ca serait plus facile pour revenir avec le vent dans le dos. J’ai ete jusqu’à une pointe de terre et quelle surprise de lautre cote! Il y avait encore plus de vent…. j’ai decidé de m’en retourner vers mon point de depart. En arrivant, comme Lucie n’etait pas encore la, j’ai continué un peu de l’autre coté. J’ai remarqué une petite plage et j’ai decidé d’y aller pour me reposer un peu, avoir une cigarette et faire de la photo. Je n’en ai pas pris dans le kayak car il y avait trop de vent et je me concentrais surtout a diriger mon kayak. Je suis arrivé a la plage, il y avait un melange de glace et de neige sur une dizaine de pieds du bord de la plage. J’ai débarqué du kayak mais ce que je ne savais pas c’est que le sable etait gelé et quand je suis sorti, le kayak a glissé en arriere et je me suis retrouvé le cul dans l’eau. Est-ce que je vous ai dit qu’un wetsuit, ca marche? La je vous le dis…. Ca fonctionne vraiment, tout etait bien, a part un peu froid au pied, le reste etait correct. Je me suis fumé ma cigarette, j’ai pris quelques photos et je suis reparti. Cette fois-ci Lucie m’attendait au point de depart.
En fin de compte je me suis bien amusé malgré le derrière mouillé. C’était la première fois de la saison, et c’etait bien memorable. Je viens tout juste de verifier ma carte sur mon gps, ca a ete un petit voyage de 4.5 km. Pas pire pour la premiere fois de l’annee…
