For a change, the weather was nice while on my day off. Lucie and Vincent were working and Kim and Alain were in their room. So I loaded the kayak on the top of the van and got all my gear.
At noon, I gave Vincent a ride to work and I was on my way. I decided to go to Rocky Harbour pond.
I paddle around the pond, took me about 1 ½ hours.
What a nice day. I took all my time and enjoyed it to the maximum. I took few photos and even did some videos.
After returning home, I told Alain and Kim that I would bring them swimming. So we went back to Rocky Harbour pond where they were able to cool down a bit.
If the weather is cooperating tomorrow I am planning to do the same thing. This time I will take Alain and Kim when I leave, so they will have plenty of time for swimming while I am having fun with my kayak.
So I had a really good day.
Pour changer, la temperature etait de mon cote durant ma journee de conge. Lucie et Vincent travaillaient et Kim et Alain etaient dans leur chambre. J’ai donc mis le kayak sur le toit de la van et pris tout mon equipement.
A midi, j’ai emmener Vincent a l’ouvrage et je suis parti. J’ai décidé d’aller a l’etang de Rocky Harbour.
J’ai fait la circonference de l’etang, ce qui m’a pris environ 1 heure et demi. Quelle belle journee. J’ai pris tout mon temps et j’en ai profite au maximum. J’ai pris quelques photos et même quelques vidéos.
Lorsque je suis retourne a la maison, j’ai emmene Alain et Kim pour se baigner. On est retourne a l’etang de Rocky Harbour étang ou ils on ete capable de se rafraichir un peu.
Si demain la temperature est encore de notre cote, je vais faire la meme chose. Ce coup-ci, je vais emmener Alain et Kim en meme temps que moi, ils vont pouvoir se baigner pendant que je me fais du fun avec mon kayak.
So we went to Norris Point. The main reason is that we had never paddled on this side of the bay so far. As we were putting the kayaks in the water, we saw a whale. We saw it coming to the surface several times, but by the time we were on the water, she was gone. We had a good paddle,
however around noon, the winds picked up and we ended up with some real good waves. So we turned around and went back on shore.
Upon returning home we decided to leave the kayak on the roof of the van. We are returning tonight and we will go to see the sunset from the water at Mill Brook. We are hoping to stay there for a little while and do some kayaking at night. We might be able to see some bio luminescent plancton from the kayak. I will let you know as soon as I am back.
Yes, we are already back…. Wow that was fun. We saw the end of the sunset from our kayaks.
Then as we were waiting for night time, we saw a moose and baby moose and a duck. Then we just paddled around the wharf for a little while. Alain kept a good eye on us from the wharf.
This was our first night paddling and what fun it was. Suddenly everything got calm and we just stayed there floating around.
A little later we were lucky enough to see the bio luminescent plancton. With each paddle we could see the water lighting. What a cool effect. Even just the motion of the kayak in the water would activate it. Quite a show. Then we packed everything under a starry sky. A really good day on the water. I need to do that more often.
Le matin s’est passe comme prevu, la temperature etait de notre cote, beau ciel bleu, pas de vent , ideal pour le kayak.
On est alle a Norris Point. La raison principale pour ce choix est qu’on est jamais aller faire du kayak de ce cote-la de la baie. Juste comme on mettait les kayaks a l’eau on a vu une baleine. On l’a vue venir a la surface plusieurs fois. Mais par le temps qu’on a ete dans nos kayaks sur l’eau, la baleine avait disparue. On a fait une bonne ballade,
mais vers midi, le vent s’est leve et on s’est retrouve avec pas mal de vagues. On a donc fait demi-tour et on est retourne sur la terre ferme.
A notre retour a la maison on a decide de laisser les kayak sur le toit de la van. On va aller en refaire ce soir et aller voir le coucher du soleil sur l’eau a Mill Brook. On espere aussi faire un peu de kayak de nuit comme ca on va pouvoir voir le plancton bio-luminescent de nos kayaks. Je vais vous mettre au courrant de tout ca a mon retour.
Et oui on est deja de retour…. Wow c’etait pas mal le fun. On a vu la fin du coucher de soleil de nos kayaks.
En attendant la noirceur on s’est promene un peu et on a vu une mere et un bebe orignal et un canard. Par la suite on a pagaye autour du quai un peu. Alain gardait un oeil attentif sur nous a partir du quai.
C’était notre premiere sortie de nuit en kayak et je peux vous dire que c’etait pas mal agreable. Tout d’un coup tout s’est calme et on est juste reste a flotter sur l’eau.
Un peu plus tard on a eu la chance de voir du plancton bio-luminescent. A chaque coup de pagaie on pouvait le voir dans l’eau, tout s’allumait. Ca donnait un effet pas mal trippant. Meme juste le mouvement du kayak sur l’eau activait l’effet. Tout un spectacle. Ensuite on a tout place sur le toit de la van sous un ciel etoile. En fin de compte une tres bonne journee sur l’eau. J’ai besoin de faire ca plus souvent.
Well, vacations are over… I have been working for a week and it has been just crazy. But today, I was off and so was Lucie. We decided that we would try and go kayaking a bit. Last week my doctor told me that my shoulder was fine and that I could go back to normal work. That is all I needed to hear in order to plan my first day on the water.
We left early this morning, the weather was not that great but still good enough to be on the water. So we went. We encountered a lot of wind and some good waves but it was still a good day on the water. It reminded me why I liked kayaking so much.
So we had a great day and we even saw a whale.
Eh bien oui, les vacances sont finies … Je travaille depuis une semaine et ca a ete pas mal occupe. Mais aujourd’hui, j’etais en conge et Lucie aussi. On a decide d’aller faire du Kayak. La semaine derniere, mon docteur m’a dit que mon epaule etait correcte et que je pouvais retourner au travail normal. C’est tout ce que j’avais besoin d’entendre afin de planifier ma première journee sur l’eau.
On est parti de bonne heure, la temperature etait pas vraiment de notre cote. On a eu du vent et pas mal de vagues, mais ca ete quand meme une bonne journee sur l’eau. Je me suis souvenu de pourquoi j’aimais tant faire du kayak.
En fin de compte une bonne journee et on a meme vu une baleine.

I worked all day. In the meantime, Lucie picked up Vincent in Corner Brook today. He will be staying with us for a little while as he is starting his new job tomorrow in the park. Until he gets a vehicle he will be with us, which is fine with me as he will not have to drive back and forth everyday to Corner Brook. It is a 1 ½ drive (3 hours both ways) in a moose infested area.So they got back this afternoon. Right after supper Vincent loaded both kayaks on the van and both of them went for a little evening paddle. I am jealous, not able to go kayaking and even worst working while they do. I can’t wait to be able to do the same thing. They even took photos….
I am a kayakoolic going through withdrawal symptoms right now. In the meantime I am watching kayak videos on youtube.
J’ai travaille toute la journee. Pendant ce temps-la, Lucie a ete chercher Vincent a Corner Brook. Il va rester avec nous pour un petit bout, il commence son nouvel emploi pour le parc demain. Jusqu’a ce qu’il se trouve un vehicule, il va rester avec nous, en fin de compte c’est bien, je trouve ca bien comme ca il n’aura pas a conduire tous les jours, aller et retour a Corner Brook. Il s’agit d’une conduite de 1 ½ de route (3heures aller-retour) dans une zone infestee d’orignaux.
Donc, ils sont arrives dans l’apres-midi. Juste après le souper Vincent a mis les kayaks sur la van et ils sont partis faire du kayak. Je suis jaloux, pas capable de faire du kayak et en plus je travaillais. Je ne peux pas attendre d’etre capable de faire la meme chose. Ils ont meme pris des photos, les baveux.
En attendant, je suis entrain de regarder des videos de kayak sur youtube. Je suis un kayakoolique en manque.
Well we had 3 days of rain for my 3 days off. But still we were able to do a little bit between the clouds.
Since we came back from vacation, we were not too lucky weather wise. We were able to get into the kayak one afternoon on the August 08th. This was only a really short paddle, about ½ hour. We were also able to do a small trail, Berry Hill, we got there just for the sunset and got some nice photos.
Then I worked but that didn’t keep Lucie from going kayaking with Vincent. They went on Wednesday afternoon, both of them, while I was working hard… Always the same people having all the fun. That night we went for a little walk and later we took the kids stargazing.
Then on Thursday, Lucie decided to go camping with Alain. I worked all day, so after work I went and helped them set up the tent. Kim and I stayed with them a little for a nice campfire. The plan was that Kim and I would go the next day…. Guess what? The next day was my first day off and it rained.
It is not fair now, is it? Anyway the next morning, during a small break with no rain, Lucie and I went to take down the tent and pack everything. While there we decided to take a small walk on the Baker’s Brook fall trail. We did that one before, we just wanted to go and take some photos.
I am glad we did as about 4 km in the trail we saw a couple of moose right by the trail. It was the first time I saw some that close in the woods. I managed to get some good photos.

Tomorrow it is back to work.
Enfin de compte j’ai eu 3 jours de pluie pour mes 3 jours de conge. Malgre tout on a quand meme pu faire quelques choses entre deux nuages.
Depuis qu’on est revenu de vacances on n’a pas ete gaté coté temperature. On a ete capable de faire un peu de kayak durant la soiree du 8 août. C’était seulement une petite promenade de ½ heure. On a aussi pu faire un petit sentier, Berry Hill, on est arrivé là juste a temps pour le coucher de soleil, ca a donné quelques photos pas pire pantoute.
Ensuite je suis retourné au travail. Ca n’a pas empeché Lucie et Vincent d’aller faire du kayak. Ils y sont alles mercredi dans l’apres midi pendant que je travaillais tres fort. C’est tout le temps les mêmes qui ont tout le fun. Durant la soiree on a ete faire une petite promenade et ensuite on a emmené les enfants regarder les etoiles.
Jeudi, Lucie et Alain ont decidé d’aller faire du camping. Comme je travaillais toute la journee, apres l’ouvrage je suis allé leur donner un coup de main pour tout installer. Kim et moi sommes restés dans la soiree et on a eu un beau feu de camp. On avait decidé que la journee suivante ce serait au tour de Kim et moi d’aller camper. Devinez ce qui s’est passé? Il a plu et notre plan etait a l’eau. C’etait ma premiere journee de conge.
C’est pas vraiment juste, pas de kayak, pas de camping, mais coudonc! Le lendemain matin, Lucie et moi sommes retournés au terrain de camping pour tout demonter. Pendant qu’on etait la on a decidé d’aller se promener. Donc on a ete faire le sentier Baker’s Brook fall. Ce n’etait pas la premiere fois qu’on le faisait, mais on voulait juste aller faire un peu de photo.
Ca a bien adonné car a environ 4 kilometrea sur le sentier on s’est retrouver face a face avec un couple d’orignaux. C’etait la premiere fois que j’en voyais de si proche dans le bois. J’ai reussi a faire quelques photos qui sont très bien.
