You better sit down, take a coffee or whatever you drink, this is going to be a long update. We spent 3 days in Fundy National Park, did all kinds of trails and activities.

I took 887 photos during these 3 days, it is hard just to chose a few. We had really nice weather for the 3 days and really enjoyed ourselves.

So here we go:

We left around dinner time, I had worked the night before and Lucie had taken care of packing everything. Everybody was coming for the trip, even Loki. On the way to Fundy National Park, we took a little detour and went to see a waterfall in Waterford.

The waterfall was right on the side of the road, so no problem with walking, however it took us a while to find the exact location. Nice area, took lots of photos and even found 2 geocaches. We parked the vehicle in the parking lot of a church.

Then we kept on going. We had to stop in Sussex to buy Alain some running shoes. He was already complaining and we hadn’t even started doing trails.

We arrived in Fundy National Park, we found a camping site at the Point Wolf campground

and set up the 2 tents, we had supper and then we went for a walk on the beach, it was low tide.

We went back to the campsite, we had a campfire and went to bed. Vincent and I decided that we would sleep beside the fire and let the rest of the family in the luxury of the tents.

Vous etes aussi bien de vous asseoir, prendre un café ou ce que vous buvez, ca va etre une longue mise a jour. On a passé 3 jours dans le Parc National de Fundy.

On a fait tout plein de sentiers et d’activités. J’ai pris 887 photos pendant ces 3 jours, c’est difficile d’en choisir seulement quelques-unes. On a meme eu de la belle temperature durant les 3 jours et on a passé vraiment du bon temps.

Donc je commence:

On est parti vers l’heure du dîner, j’avais travaillé la veille et c’est Lucie qui avait pris soin de tout preparer. Tout le monde venait pour le voyage, même Loki. Sur le trajet pour le Parc de Fundy, On a fait un petit détour pour aller voir une chute à Waterford.

La chute etait juste sur le bord de la route, donc pas de sentier a faire, cependant il nous a fallu un certain temps en voiture pour trouver l’emplacement exacte. Un beau petit coin, on a pris beaucoup de photos et on a même trouvé 2 geocaches. On avait stationné la voiture dans le stationnement d’une église.

Puis on est reparti vers notre destination. On a dû arrêter a Sussex pour acheter des souliers de course Alain. Il se plaignait déjà et on avait même pas commencé à faire des sentiers.

On est finalement arrivé au parc national Fundy, On s’est trouvé un emplacement de camping au terrain Wolf Point

et on a monte les 2 tentes. Ensuite on a soupé et on a ete faire une marche sur la plage, la marée était basse.

On est retourne au terrain de camping, on s’est fait un feu de camp et on est allé se coucher. Vincent et moi, on a décidé de dormir a la belle etoile et laisser le reste de la famille dans le luxe de leurs tentes.

One of the things I wanted to do during my vacations, especially after the nice day we had kayaking a few weeks back, was to go kayaking for 2 days.  Camp overnight.  I had spent a few weeks to find a good river/spot.  I had studied maps and checked everything on Google Earth.  So the big day arrived.

We left in early afternoon, all packed and ready to go.  Vincent dropped us off and the plan was for him to pick us up the next day at a different location.

So we left shore at around 11:00hrs.  Nice sunny day.  I knew that we would have to portage the kayak a little at the beginning.  Not enough water to paddle.  I just thought that it was for a little while, like 400m, but we end up pulling and pushing the kayaks on the river bed for 7 kms.  That is what I call a workout.

Finally after 7 kms of hard work and hitting our feet on rocks, there was enough water to paddle.  Not a minute too soon, as it was getting dark and we needed to find a spot to camp.

Just as the sun was setting down, 2 kms later, we found a little island.  We set up our camp, had supper, had a small camp fire and hit the bed.

We had rain during the night and it was cloudy and raining when we got up the next morning.  We had breakfast and we left.  Because of the time it took us the day before, we had to paddle 23 kms on that day.

We had all kinds of weather during the day, clouds, rain, sun etc.

we stopped at around 14:00hrs for dinner.  Then we kept going.

We arrived around 18:00hrs.  It was time for us to get back on shore.  Again lots of exercises for one day.  But what a two day it was, very nice, even with all the hard work.

Our longest kayak trip, 32 kms.  We will have to do that again one day, but not now, need to recuperate first.

Une des choses que je voulais faire pendant mes vacances, surtout après la belle journée qu’on a eu en kayak il y a quelques semaines, c’etait de faire du kayak pour 2 jours. Camper durant la nuit. J’ai fait des recherches pendant quelques semaines pour trouver une bonne rivière / endroit. J’avais étudié les cartes et tout vérifié sur Google Earth. Finalement, le grand jour est arrivé.

On est parti en fin d’avant-midi, tout etait paquetté et on etait prêt à partir. Vincent nous a debarqué et il allait venir nous chercher le lendemain à un autre endroit.

On etait sur l’eau à environ 11:00 hrs. Belle journée ensoleillée. Je savais qu’on allait devoir faire un peu de portage au début. Il n’y avait pas assez d’eau pour pagayer. J’ai juste pensé que c’était pour un petit bout, comme 400m, mais on a fini par tirer et pousser les kayaks sur le lit de la rivière pour 7 kms. C’est ce que j’appelle une bonne scéance d’activites physiquse. C’est dommage qu’ils ne montrent pas le niveau d’eau sur les cartes.

Enfin, après 7 km de travail acharné et à se cogner les pieds sur les roches, on a eu assez d’eau pour pagayer. Pas une minute trop tôt, car il commençait à faire noir et on avait besoin de se trouver un endroit pour camper.

Juste comme le soleil se couchait, après environ 2 km de pagayage, nous avons trouvé une petite île. On a installé notre camp, fait a souper, on a eu un petit feu de camp et on s’est ecroulé dans nos sacs de couchages.

On a eu de la pluie pendant la nuit et c’etait couvert et il pleuvait quand on s’est levé le lendemain matin.  Petit dejeuner sous la pluie et on est parti. On devait rattrapper le temps perdu sur les roches la journee d’avant.  On avait 23 kms de kayak a faire pour la journee.

Nous avons eu toutes sortes de conditions météorologiques pendant la journée, nuages, pluie, etc et meme du soleil.

On s’est arrêté vers 14:00 heures pour le dîner. Ensuite on est reparti.

On est arrivés vers 18h00 heures. C’etait pas mal le temps qu’on arrive sur la terre ferme. Encore une fois beaucoup d’exercices pour une seule journée. Mais quels 2 jours d’aventure, On a bien aimé ca meme si on a du travailler fort.

Ca a ete notre plus longue distance parcouru en kayak, 32 kms. On devra refaire ca un autre moment donne,  mais pas maintenant, j’ai besoin de récupérer un peu en premier.

We decided to kidnap our kids and go for a trail, no choice,, no “I don’t wanna go”, no excuses! Everyone was coming. At one point you have to insist in order for them to get out of the house and away from computer/playstation and television. So we all went, some by choice some by force. The chosen trail was about 1 hour drive from home.

After an hour of “are we there yet / it is too hot / I am bored” we finally arrived.

The trail was about 4 km return. A good easy trail.

The main attraction of this trail was the waterfall at the end. Big one.

We took some photos from the top, then we proceeded to the botom of the fall, in the meantime, Kim and Alain decided that they had seen enough of the fall and decided to go back to the car. More photos and then we were done.

On the way back, we saw a sign on the Trans-Canada Highway announcing the town of Nackawic and the fact that they had the world largest axe in the world. That picked my curiosity, I had to see that. We decided to play tourists and we took the exit.

Yup, it is a big axe.

Sometime I wonder how that town meeting went… “Nothing much to see in our town, lets build a big axe and make our town special”. We had a lot of fun.

We finished the day by all going out for supper. The kids ended up taking some fresh air and get some colors on their cheeks.

Nous avons décidé de kidnapper les enfants et de partir faire un sentier, pas le choix, pas d’excuses, tout le monde y va. À un moment donné, on doit insister pour qu’ils sortent un peu de la maison et qu’ils lachent les ordinateurs / playstation et la télévision. Donc, on est tous partis, certains par choix, d’autres par force. Le sentier qu’on avait choisi etait à environ 1 heure de route de la maison.

Après une heure de «on est tu rendu / il fait trop chaud / Je m’ennuie” On est finalement arrivé.

Le sentier aller-retour était environ 4 km. Un petit sentier facile.

L’attraction principale de ce sentier a été la chute à la fin. Une grosse.

On a pris tout plein de photos vue de haut, ensuite on est allé au bas de la chute, durant ce temps-la, Kim et Alain ont décidé qu’ils en avaient assez vu de la chute et ils on décidé de retourner à la voiture. Encore des photos et on est parti.

Sur le chemin du retour, nous avons vu un signe sur l’autoroute qui annoncait la ville de Nackawic et le fait qu’ils avaient le plus grand hache au monde. Ca a piqué ma curiosité, il fallait voir ça. On a donc décidé de jouer les touristes et on a pris la sortie.

Ouais…  C’est une grande hache.

Parfois je me demande comment la reunion a la mairie qui a emmené la contruction de la hache s’est passée… “Y’a rien à voir chez nous, on devrait construire la plus grande hache au monde, ça donnerait quelque chose à voir ici”.   On s’est bien amusé.

On a terminé la journée au restaurant pour le souper. Les enfants ont pris un peu d’air frais et sont un peu moins blancs.

We drove 4 hours to Halifax to pick up Kim.  Just before we arrived,  we found out that her flight was delayed by 4 hours…  So here we are in an airport at 09:30pm, all the stores are closing around us, except for Tim Horton’s (I still have a guardian angel watching over me).  So stuck in the airport for 4 hours.

It was supposed to be a drive in, pick her up quickly and get back home.  Because of that I didn’t take anything with me, no GPS, no camera, no nothing…

Nothing much else to do, than watch the arrival panel and check the time, pretty boring.

That is when I remembered that my cell phone has a camera.  So I spent 4 hours taking photos in the airport with my cell phone.  Some came out better than others but it was still fun.

Kim finally arrived at 01:30am.  She was tired but other than that fine.  We left shortly after.  We arrived home at 05:30 without and all went well.

Kim is back home with all kinds of memories from her vacation in the states and all kinds of plans for next year. But that is for another story.

On a conduit pendant  4 heures pour se rendre à l’aéroport de Halifax pour chercher Kim. Un peu avant d’arriver on a appris que son vol était retardé de 4 heures … Donc on s’est ramassé dans l’aéroport à 09:30h, tous les magasins fermaient autour de nous, sauf pour le Tim Horton’s (j’ai encore un ange gardien qui veille sur moi). Donc dans un aéroport pendant 4 heures avec rien a faire.

C’etait supposé etre juste conduire, ramasser Kim et rentrer à la maison, vite fait bien fait. Pour cette raison, je n’avais rien emmener avec moi, pas de GPS, pas de caméra, rien du tout …

Pas grand-chose d’autre à faire que de regarder le panneau des heures d’arrivée et de surveiller sa montre.

C’est alors que je me suis souvenu que mon téléphone cellulaire avait un appareil photo. J’ai donc passé 4 heures à prendre des photos dans l’aéroport. Y en a qui sont pas si pire que ca pour des photos prises avec un telephone.  Mais en fin de compte je me suis bien amusé.

Kim est de retour à la maison avec toutes sortes de souvenirs de ses vacances dans aux Etats-Unis et toutes sortes de plans pour l’année prochaine. Mais c’est une autre histoire.

Yvon and Chantal dropped in while on vacation in New Brunswick. We had a nice supper and then we went for a walk. It is without saying, I did some photos.

Like I said in an earlier post, it is so cool to have visitors and getting news from home. Tomorrow we are picking up Kim at the airport.

Still no grass…

Yvon et Chantal sont arretés durant leur vacances au Nouveau-Brunswick. On a soupé et ensuite on est aller faire un petite marche. Il va sans dire que j’ai fait quelques photos.

Comme je disais dans un article précédent, c’est pas mal agreable d’avoir des visiteurs et d’avoir des nouvelles de la maison. Demain, on va chercher Kim à l’aéroport.

Toujours pas de gazon…

Not much new lately, too busy with work and also we have started working on the front lawn.

After 4 loads of top soil, getting rid of all the rocks, spreading all the top soil, we were finally able to seed the lawn. It is now just a matter of time before hopefully it will start growing. Lucie made some nice brick wall for flower beds. We took some photos of the process, but I want to wait and show them to you when we have all the results.

Pas grand chose de nouveau ces derniers temps, trop occupé avec le travail et on a commencé à travailler sur la pelouse.

Après 4 camions de terre, ratisser le terrain et de se débarrasser de toutes les roches, étendre toute la terre, egaliser, on a fini par semer le gazon. Il nous reste plus qu’a attendre et voir ce qui va se passer. Lucie a fait des mur de briques pour faire des plate-bandes. On a pris des photos durant le avant et pendant, mais on va attendre que tout soit fini pour vous les montrer.
