When we moved to New Brunswick, we got our hands on a New-Brunswick tourism guide. We found several things that we wanted to do in the guide and at the time we said “we will have to remember this for next summer”. One of these things was the Atlantic International Balloon Festival.

The week end of the festival finally arrived and we all went to Sussex, about 1.5 hours drive from home. We arrived early in the afternoon to see the launch of the balloons at around 5:00pm. During the afternoon we walked around the festival ground and we had a look at some old cars that were on display and all of the kiosks that were there.

Unfortunately the launch had been delayed because of the windy conditions. But the children had a good spirit so we decided to wait for a little bit. At around 18:30 the wind died down and the first balloon went up.

This was followed by several others.

We stayed there to watch them as they were filling up the sky, quite a show. We had a real good time and spent a perfect day out.

Lorsque nous sommes déménagés au Nouveau-Brunswick, on avait mis la main sur un guide touristique du Nouveau-Brunswick. On avait trouvé plusieurs choses que nous voulions faire et on s’etait dit “va pas falloir oublier ca pour l’été prochain”. Une de ces choses-là etait le festival international de montgolfières de l’Atlantique.

Elle a ete suivie par plusieurs autres.

On est resté là à les regarder remplir le ciel, tout un spectacle. On a passé un apres-midi parfait.

After spending the past 2 days doing updates on my blog and retouching photos, I needed a break.  Early this afternoon Lucie said “it is nice out, what are we doing? “ that is all that I needed.  We jumped in the car and went for a drive.  We found 2 waterfalls, both not too far from the road, no trail involved.

The first one is called Lower Henderson Brook Falls (Shaw) Falls.  Nice little waterfalls.  On location we met another couple who were doing exactly the same thing as us.  They bought the book, Waterfalls of New Brunswick and are just driving around to see all the waterfalls in the book.

The second one was called, Jones Mill Falls.  Another nice waterfall.

So we had a good afternoon, taking photos and taking some fresh air.  The worst now is that I have more to write for my blog.  This is a vicious circle.

Après avoir passé les 2 dernièrs jours à faire des mises a jour sur mon blog et faire de la retouche de photos, j’avais besoin d’une pause. Au début de l’après-midi, Lucie a dit: “il fait beau, c’est quoi qu’on fait?”  C’est tout ce que j’avais besoin. On a sauté dans l’auto et on est parti. On a trouvé 2 chutes.  Les 2 etaient pas trop loin de la route, faque pas de sentier a faire.

La premiere, la chute Lower Brook Henderson (Shaw) Falls . Une belle petite chute. Une fois sur place on a rencontré un autre couple qui faisait exactement la même chose que nous. Ils ont acheté le livre Chutes du Nouveau-Brunswick et ils se promenent pour voir toutes les chutes.

La seconde chute, Jones Mill Falls. Une fois de plus, une belle petite chute.

Donc, On a eu un bon après-midi a prendre des photos et un peu d’air frais. Le pire, c’est que maintenant que j’ai une autre mise a jour a faire pour mon blog. C’est un cercle vicieux.

There is more in life than kayak, camping and adventure.  Again I was just too busy with all of these things to write about the other news.  This is what has been happening around the house the last few months.

We finished working on the front lawn.  Here’s all the photos, before and after.  It’s starting to look a lot better.

Other than that, I got a nice birthday present.  I got a nice shiny kayak trailer.  This is so cool, no need to work out just to put the kayaks on the van and the other things is that the kayaks are always ready to go.  We had some problems getting the plates for it, but now everything is alright.

Vincent is getting ready to go back to school.  He is already packed and ready to go.  He is moving in St Andrews and will be attending college there.  He will be studying in International travels and tourism.  He is excited and nervous at the same time.

Finally I went to see the optometrist (eye doctor) on Friday.  I am having a bit of a hard time reading.  I have to put the book away from me to be able to see something.  I thought that she would just give me some reading glass.  It’s worse that I thought…  It is not funny getting old.  I am getting bi-focals.  I thought that I was fine seeing things at a distance, she put some glasses in front of me and wow, what a difference!  So anyway I am getting my new glasses in 2 weeks.  The good thing is that when I will give the kids the daddy stare, I will look like even more like a daddy.

Il y a plus dans la vie que du kayak, du camping et de l’aventure. Encore une fois j’ai été trop occupé avec toutes ces choses pour ecrire d’autres nouvelles. Voici ce qui s’est passé autour de la maison durant ces derniers mois.

On a fini de travailler sur la pelouse. Voici quelque photos, avant et après. Ca commence a ressembler a un terrain.

A part ca, j’ai reçu un beau cadeau de fete. J’ai recu un belle remorque toute neuve pour mes kayaks. C’est pas mal le fun, pas besoin de forcer pour essayer de mettre les kayaks sur le toit de la van.  Et en plus les kayaks sont tout le temps prêts à partir. On a eu des problemes a obtenir les plaques d’immatriculation mais maintenant tout est rentré dans l’ordre.

Enfin je suis allé voir l’optométriste (spécialiste des yeux), vendredi. J’ai de la misere a lire. Il faut que je tienne le livre loin de moi pour etre en mesure de voir quelque chose. Je pensais que le docteur allait juste me donner des lunettes pour lire. Et bien c’est pire que je pensais … C’est pas drôle de  vieillir. Je vais avoir des bi-focales. Je pensais que tout allait bien pour voir a distance, le docteur m’a mis des lunettes et wow, toute une difference. Je vais recevoir mes lunettes dans 2 semaines.

Vacations are good, but not for everything, especially not for your blog. We have been too busy, doing too many things that I never had a chance to update my blog. So now I’m sitting at my computer wondering where to start. I will do several updates in the next few days, get ready to read a lot and see many photos.

Les vacances c’est bien, mais pas pour tout, surtout pas pour le blog. On a été trop occupé a faire tout plein de choses, ce qui fait que je n’ai jamais eu la chance de mettre mon blog a jour. Donc je suis assis a mon ordinateur avec une tache unsurmontable et j’essaie de figurer par ou commencer. Je vais faire plusieurs mises à jour dans les prochains jours, préparez-vous a avoir beaucoup de lecture et à voir tout plein de photos.

Up early again, had breakfast and packed up everything. Few more photos of the smoke in the trees.

On the way out of the park we stopped briefly at a little belvedere and then we kept on going.

We went to Alma to pick up a few things, I needed a memory card for my camera as mine was already full. I did a geocache while in Alma.

Then we went to Hopewell Rocks. We didn’t have any other choices than play tourists as the place was packed with people. But even with everyone around I was able to get some nice photos.

We left just after dinner and we went to Moncton. We had promised Alain that we would go to the Moncton Zoo. So we did. Once again we had a good time, however all the exercise from the few days were starting to be felt by everyone and it was time to head back home.

We all went for a nice supper, nothing burned, no mosquitos in our drinks and sitting down and getting served, it was nice.

We arrived home after a good 3 days spent as a family, it is rare these days and it was probably one of the last time we will be able to do something like this all together.

Juste avant de sortir du parc, on s’est arrêté brièvement à un belvédère et on est reparti.

On a du arreter à Alma pour acheter quelques affaires, j’avais besoin d’une nouvelle carte mémoire pour mon appareil car la mienne etait pleine. J’ai meme trouve une geocache à Alma.

Ensuite on est allé à Hopewell Rocks. On a pas eu d’autre choix que de jouer aux touristes, car l’endroit était plein de monde. Malgres tout le monde autour j’ai quand meme eté capable de faire des photos potables.

On est reparti au debut de l’apres midi et on est allés à Moncton. On avait promis a Alain qu’on irait visiter le zoo de Moncton. C’est en plein ca qu’on a fait. Une fois de plus on a passé un bon apres-midi, cependant, tout l’exercice des dernier jours nous avait brulés et tout le monde commencait a le ressentir, il était temps de rentrer chez nous.

On est allé pour souper au restaurant, y n’y avait pas de nourriture brûlée, pas de moustique dans nos boissons et finalement de s’asseoir et de se faire servir, le grand luxe.

On est retourné a la maison apres avoir passé 3 bonnes journees tous ensemble en famille, c’est rare ces temps-ci et c’etait probablement une des dernières fois qu’on aura la chance de faire quelques chose du genre tous ensemble.

We were up early. We got breakfast and then we all went for a trail, Herring Cove . Apparently there were some tidal caves on that trail. Unfortunately we were too late as the tide had already started to rise and we were unable to get to them.

We went back to the campground and had dinner. Vincent wanted to do a hard trail, Third Vault Falls. Alain wanted to go swimming and Kim had no special plan. So here’s what happened, Kim stayed at the campground with Loki, we dropped Vincent at his trail and dropped Alain at the swimming pool.

During that time, Lucie and I went to do 2 trails. The first one was: Caribou Plain.

It was a nice and easy trail. Again took all kinds of photos. When we finished the trail we went to check on Alain. He had finished swimming and was ready to go to the campground. So we dropped him off and went to do the other trail. We had no news from Vincent, but we weren’t expecting any for a little while as his trail was a hard one and would take him at least 4 hrs to complete.

Lucie and I went to do our other trail, named Kinnie Brook. That trail was a little bit harder, going down all the way, which means going up all the way back. At the end of the trail was supposed to be a little brook. The brook was dry, no water what so ever, disappointing, walking all that way to see a brook that is not there.

But the real good thing on that trail came as we had stopped for a little break just before going back. In the field, where the brook was supposed to be, we ended up spotting about a half dozen hummingbirds. We sat there watching them chase each other for the longest time.

For sure we took photos, but these little things are fast and not easy to capture with a camera.

No need to say, this was the highlight of the day.

We picked up Vincent and went back to the campground. Everyone had stories to tell about their afternoon, that was kind of cool.

Even took some good photos of the campfire smoke in the trees.

After supper we all went for a trail called Dickson Falls. Nice trail and at the end a nice waterfall was waiting for us. It was getting dark so it was getting harder to get some good photos.

After the trail, we all went back to the campground. While at the entrance of the campground we saw some bats on the park’s warden house, cool! Then we had a nice campfire, with wieners hot chocolate and coffee and we all went to bed after a really good day. Another night under the stars for me and Vincent.

On etait debout de bonne heure. Apres un petit déjeuner et on est tous allé une faire le sentier Herring Cove. Apparemment, il y avait une caverne creusée par les marées sur ce sentier. Malheureusement on etait trop tard, la marée avait déjà commencé à monter on n’a pas ete capable d’y aller.

De retour au terrain de camping pour le diner. Vincent avait decidé d’aller faire un sentier difficile qui s’appelait Third Vault Falls. Alain lui voulait aller à la piscine et Kim n’avait pas de plan spécial. Alors, voici ce qui s’est passé, Kim est restée au camping avec Loki, on a deposé Vincent à son sentier et on a emmené Alain à la piscine.

Pendant ce temps la, Lucie et moi on a ete faire 2 sentiers. Le premier était: Caribou Plain.

Le sentier etait vraiment facile. Encore une fois j’ai pris tout plein de photos. Apres avoir fait le sentier on a ete voir Alain. Il avait fini de se baigner et il était prêt à retourner au terrain de camping. On l’a deposé et on est reparti faire l’autre sentier. On avait pas encore de nouvelle de Vincent, mais on n’en attendait pas avant un bon petit bout de temps car son sentier etait plus difficile et devait prendre au moins 4 heures à faire.

On est donc parti faire le sentier Kinnie Brook. Ce sentier etait un peu plus difficile que le precedent, ca descendait tout le long, ca veut dire que ca montait sur le chemin de retour. À la fin du sentier il devait y avoir un ruisseau. Le ruisseau était completement à sec, pas d’eau, c’est un peu décevant de faire un sentier pour voir un ruisseau qui n’est pas là.

Arriver la fin du sentier on s’est assis pour quelque minutes avant de remonter le sentier. Dans le champ ou le ruisseau devait etre on a vu une demi-douzaine d’oiseaux-mouches. On est resté là à les regarder pendant un bon bout de temps.

Bien sûr, on a pris tout plein de photos, c’est pas evident de faire des photos d’oiseaux-mouches. Ca bouge tout le temps et c’est pas mal vite.

Pas besoin de dire que ce fut le clou de la journée.

On a ramassé Vincent sur le chemin de retour et on est retourné au terrain de camping. Tout le monde avait des histoires à raconter a propos de leur après-midi, c’etait pas mal le fun.

Même pris quelques bonnes photos de la fumée d’un feu de camp dans les arbres.

Après le souper, on est tous allés faire le sentier Dickson Falls. Un beau petit sentier avec une belle chute a la fin. Comme il commençait à faire noir, ca devenait plus difficile de faire des photos.

Après le sentier on est retourné au terrain de camping. A l’entrée du terrain on a vu des chauves-souris sur la cabane des gardes-parc, pas mal le fun! Ensuite on s’est fait un feu de camp avec chocolats chauds, café et des hot dogs. On s’est finalement ecrasé dans nos sleeping bags apres une vraiment bonne journee. Une autre nuit sous les étoiles pour moi et Vincent
