It was a cloudy, cold winter day. Well, not that cold but I had to say that for dramatic purposes. It was about -7, cloudy and we found a nice trail for snowshoeing, in the woods so protected from the wind. I have to admit, even if I am ashamed to, I received these snowshoes for Christmas 2007 and never tried them before today. I had a good time, even if it is in these kind of situation that you realize that you are not in the best of physical shape.
We started the day by driving for about ½ hour north, we were hoping to see some caribous but we had no such luck. Then we drove back toward Rocky Harbour and then further south for about another ½ hour. We went to Wiltondale and took the country sky trail. We walk for about an hour. I was well dressed, maybe a little too much, by the time we got back I was soak and wet.
All in all I had a good time, we will have to do that more often.
I had taken my new GPS Magellan Triton 400. It worked well out there, however tonight I had all kinds of problems retrieving the data from it. After spending some time on the computer I was able to get it. You can see the trip at :

C’etait une journee nuageuse, froide, une journee d’hiver. Non, en fin de compte pas si froid que ca, il fallait bien que ca ait l’air dramatique un peu. Il faisait -7, nuageux et nous avons trouvé un sentier de ski de fond au milieu du bois a l’abri du vent. Je dois admettre, meme si j’ai un peu honte, j’ai recu les raquettes pour Noel 2007 et je ne les avais pas encore essayees avant aujourd’hui. J’ai bien aime mon apres-midi, meme si c’est dans ces temps-la qu’on s’apercoit qu’on est pas dans la meilleure condition physique.
On a commence la journee en allant se promener en voiture, on a conduit pour a peu pres ½ heure vers le nord. On esperait voir des caribous. On n’a pas ete chanceux. Ensuite on est reparti vers Rocky Harbour et on a conduit pour une autre ½ heure vers le sud. On est alle jusqu’a Wiltondale et on a pris la piste de ski de fond en raquettes. On a marche pour a peu pres 1 heure. Je m’etais bien habille, peut-etre meme un peu trop, quand on est revenu j’etais tout trempe.
En fin de compte j’espere y aller encore. J’ai eu du fun..
J’avais pris mon GPS Magellan Triton 400. Il a bien fonctionne sur le sentier, mais ce soir j’ai eu de la misere a telecharger les donnees dans mon ordi. Apres avoir gosse sur mon ordi, j’ai ete capable de tout transferrer. Vous pouver voir notre aventure a:

We finally had a nice winter day today. Yes I got out of the house and I am glad that I did. We went to see the sunset earlier this evening. It was a real nice one and I got some nice photos out of it.
Tomorrow the plan, if the weather wants to cooperate, is that we are going snowshoeing. By tomorrow night I should have a few new photos and should have taken plenty of fresh air.
On a finalement eu une belle journee d’hiver aujourd’hui. Je suis meme sorti de la maison et je suis bien content d’en avoir profite. On a ete voir le coucher de soleil un peu plus tot ce soir et on a ete pas mal gates. J’ai meme fait quelques photos.
Le plan demain, si la meteo veut etre de notre cote, est d’aller faire de la raquette. Donc si tout va bien demain soir je devrais avoir encore quelques nouvelles photos a vous faire voir et je devrais avoir pris un peu d’air frais.

Here I am, at the airport in St John’s waiting for my plane, it is Thursday afternoon and my plane is not leaving before 05:00pm.. I have 2 hours to kill so I decided to write up some of my blog. I have been away from home since Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday I had a course in Corner Brook and then on Wednesday in the afternoon took a plane from Deer Lake to St John’s. The reason I am in St John’s is that I had to testify in supreme court this morning. So when I arrived yesterday, I had a meeting with the lawyer for about one hour, it gave us a chance to review the case. The worst part in all this is that I was on the stand for about 45 minutes giving evidences. 2 days of travel for 45 minutes on the stand. Oh well…
For a change the weather was nice the last few days, we even saw blue sky, this is quite something different lately however he had extreme cold weather.
There is not much new in the past weeks because of all this travel. Other than spending several days in hotels and eating in restaurant. I can’t wait to get back home in my stuff and not have to live out of a suitcase.
I just found out earlier today that I might be going to Niagara Falls in April for the National Canadian DARE conference. It is not sure yet, but there are some good chances that it will happen. I will have to find out about all this when I go back to work. I will let you know when I find out.
Today the RCMP members in Rocky Harbour (minus me, I am in St John’s) were having a hockey game against the high school students. My understanding from talking to Lucie last night is that Vincent might be doing the Safety bear during the event. Hopefully Lucie will attend the game and we will have some photos to show you.
That is it, at least that occupied some of my waiting time here in the airport. By the time I will publish this update I hope that I will have photos to add to it.
The other day I found a nice little program on the interenet, it is called poladroid. It is a small program to make polaroid from digital photos. Lots of fun! You can have a look or download the software at : http://www.poladroid.net/
This is it, I am now back home. I worked today and just taking the time tonight to finish this update. Unfortunately we have no photos of the hockey game or of Vincent as the safety bear. Lucie had a busy day and had to take Alain to the hospital, at the time they suspected that he might have broken a finger again. But it turns out it wasn’t broken.
Good thing is that I have to work only one more day and then I am off for 4, not sure yet what I will be doing, hopefully relax and take it easy.
Je suis presentement a l’‘aeroport a St Jean a attendre mon avion. C’est Jeudi apres midi et mon avion ne part pas avant 05h00 heures .. J’ai donc 2 heures a attendre alors j’ai decide d’ecrire mon blog. Je suis parti de la maison depuis mardi. Mardi et mercredi, je me suis ramasse a Corner Brook a suivre un cour, ensuite Mercredi j’ai pris l’avion a Deer Lake pour St Jean. Le pourquoi du voyage a St-Jean? Je devais temoigner en Cour Supreme ce matin. Donc des que je suis arrive a St Jean je me suis ramasse au bureau de l’avocat et on a discute de l’evenement pendant environ une heure. Le pire dans tout ca c’est que mon temoingnage n’a dure que 45 minutes. 2 jours de voyage pour 45 minutes de t/moignage, et bien en tout cas…
Pour faire changement on a eu du beau temps ces dernier jours, on a meme vu du ciel bleu, c’est pas mal different surtout apres toute la neige qu’on a eu. Malheureusement il faisait froid.
Il n’y a pas grand chose de nouveau depuis la semaine derniere, surtout a cause du voyage. A part du fait que j’ai passe plusieurs jours dans des hotels et a manger du restaurant a tous les jours. J’ai bien hate de retourner a la maison et de me retrouver dans mes affaires et ne pas a vivre de mes valises.
Je viens d’apprendre un peu plus tot aujourd’hui, que je vais peut-etre aller a Niagara Falls au mois d’avril pour une conference Canadienne de DARE. Ca a l’air que j’ai des bonnes chances, des que j’ai des nouvelles je vais vous le laisser savoir.
Aujourd’hui, les membres de la GRC de Rocky Harbour (moins moi, je suis à St John’s) ont eu un match de hockey contre les eleves de l’ecole secondaire. Si j’ai bien compris, apres avoir parle a Lucie hier soir, c’est Vincent qui va faire le Safety Bear. En esperant que Lucie va y aller et prendre quelques photos, surtout de Vincent en Safety Bear.
Tout ca vient de m’occupper un peu en attendant pour mon vol. Des que je reviens a la maison je vais publier mon blog et j’aurai peut-etre quelques photos a ajouter.

Ça y est, je suis arrive a la maison. J’ai travaille aujourd’hui et ce soir je finis d’ecrire le blog. Malheureusement on n’a pas de photo de Vincent en Safety Bear. Lucie a ete pas mal occuppee le jour de la partie de hockey, elle a du emmener Alain a l’hopital. Il s’est fait mal au doigt et tout le monde pensait qu’il etait casse encore. Bonne nouvelle il n’est pas casse.
Bon une autre journee de travail et ensuite je suis en conge pour 4 jours. Je ne sais pas encore ce que je vais faire, j’espere que je vais prendre ca relaxe et me la couler douce.

Snow, blowing snow, high wind, all that nice stuff. This is what he had for the past 3 weeks. The kids had 5 snow days where school was cancelled so far. Poor visibility, can’t even see the house right across the street. The way this thing is going, it will be august before we get a summer.
In the meantime we are trying to stay home as much as possible in a warm and cozy environment. But even then it doesn’t always work. Because of this I ended up with a nasty cold. The funny thing is that I am the one who is passing it out to the rest of the family. Usually it is the other way around, the kids get it in school and pass it on to us.
Other than that it is life as usual. Work.
Yesterday was Kim’s birthday. The plan was to all go to Corner Brook, buy Kim her birthday present and then all go to the restaurant. But things changed 2 days before hand when Kim announced that she wanted to stay home, sleep late and talked to her friend on the computer on her birthday. Vincent still wanted to go, he had requested his day off just for that, so we decided that we would go anyway and do a bit of shopping.
When teenagers are involved, things can change quite fast. We were preparing to go, when Kim told us that she had changed her mind (which was good, as it was her day) she now wanted to come with us, then Vincent told us that he wanted to stay in bed and that he changed his mind, of course for he had a party with his friends the night before… Don’t try to understand teenagers, I am trying and not succeeding so far. So we left, leaving Vincent behind. We were not out of town yet when my cell phone rang, it was Vincent calling saying that he had changed his mind again and wanted to come with us. I suspect that now that he was awake, he had nothing to loose. So we turned around, picked him up and drove off to Corner Brook quickly before someone else change his mind again.
So after long periods of indecisions, we finally spend the day in Corner Brook, all of us. It is a miracle these days to have all the family together , doing something together. We had a real good day shopping and then we went to the restaurant where we had a good meal all together. Lucie was happy she didn’t have to do dishes.
The worst part is Alain is turning 13 next month. One more teenager…
The moral of the story, with teenagers don’t try to plan things too far in advance.
Neige, de la neige et encore de la neige, ave tout ca de la poudrerie, et tout ce qui est associe avec l’hiver. C’est tout ce que on a eu pour les 3 dernieres semaines. Les enfants ont manque 5 jours d’ecole a date. La visibilite etait si terrible qu’on ne pouvait même pas voir la maison de l’autre cote de la rue. De la maniere que c’est partie on ne va pas avoir d’ete avant le mois d’aout.
En attendant, on essaie de rester a la maison le plus possible dans un milieu chaud et confortable. Mais, meme la ca ne marche pas vraiment, je me suis ramasse avec un rhume pour une bonne semaine. La seule consolation c’est que d’habitude c’est les enfants qui emmene les bibittes ici (rhume et ces affaires-la) de l’ecole. Pour une fois c’est eux autre qui vont les emmener a l’ecole…
A part ca la petite vie, bien sur le travail comme d’habitude.
Hier, c’etait la fete de Kim. On avait planifie d’aller a Corner Brook, pour acheter le cadeau de Kim et ensuite aller manger au restaurant. Mais tout a change 2 jours avant de partir. Kim nous a annonce qu’elle voulait rester a la maison, elle preferait faire la grasse matinee et ensuite passer la journee a parler avec ses amis sur l’ordinateur. Comme Vincent voulait toujours y aller et avait demande une journee de conge specialement pour ca, on a decide d’y aller quand meme et de faire du magasinage.
Avec des ados, tout peut changer en un clin d’oeil. Juste avant de partir, Kim a decide qu’elle allait venir en fin de compte, c’etait bien car on avait planifie la journee pour elle. Faqu’on a reveille Vincent qui lui a decide qu’il voulait rester couche et faire la grasse matinee. On sait bien il avait fete la veille… Je ne cherche meme plus a essayer de les comprendre et encore moins a essayer de savoir ce qu’ils vont vouloir faire. On est donc parti sans Vincent, avec Kim. On avait meme pas quitter la ville qu’on a recu un telephone de Vincent pour nous dire qu’en fin de compte il voudrait venir avec nous. Je pense qu’il etait reveille et qu’on a gache sa grasse matinee. On a donc tourne de bord, on a ete le chercher et on est reparti en vitesse pour Corner Brook avant qu’il y en ait encore un autre qui change d’idee.
Apres toutes ces periodes d’indecisions, on a finalement reussi a passer une journee a Corner Brook toute la famille. Je crois qu’on peut classer ca dans la categorie des miracles, avoir toute la famille ensemble n’est pas tres facile, presqu’impossible. On a passe une bonne journee, pas stressant a faire quelques achats et trouver un cadeau pour Kim et ensuite on est tous aller au restaurant et on a eu un bon repas. Lucie etait contente elle n’avait pas a faire la vaiselle.
Le pire c’est qu’Alain va avoir 13 ans le mois prochain. Un autre ado….
La morale de l’histoire, si vous avez des ados, n’essayez pas de faire des plans trop longtemps d’avance, meme si vous en discutez evec eux, vos plans risquent de changer plusieurs fois avant l’evenement.
